Exactly what I needed and it actually works
When I first upgraded to a two monitor setup I was a dummy and didn't even check to see what kind of ports I needed for my monitors, oh well that's what adapters are for right? Well I got two cable adapters that ended up secretly causing a myriad of weird display problems. It took several hardware tests before I was able to find and solve the problem. Extremely frustrating. Then a couple months later I got some shiny new tech that required a third hdmi port. Too bad I only had two. This led to some deep research into the best adapters and reading lots of reviews. I ended up picking out this one, a good price and good reviews.I was ready and waiting for my entire computer to blow up again, but it didn't! Maybe my standards are low because of all the crap I went through with adaptors that should have worked but didn't, but I love this thing. It's small and doesn't get in the way of my wiring and it works great! I haven't had a single issue with performance, it's pretty much like the adaptor isn't even there.I'm cursed when it comes to technology, but not even a curse is able to slow this adapter down!

Fantastic - sometimes you get more than you paid for
This works for me. I bought four of them, hoping to save on shipping (not, they charge $3 each for shipping) and was worried that the sound would not work. Well everything is great. They arrived within a few days of the order. Audio comes thru the adapter into the TV just fine. Here's my setup - Dell E6400 Laptop with Windows 7 64 bit with whatever IE comes with that.I unplugged my $6.00 HDMI cable from [...] (another fantastic deal - I have two and will buy more) from my Roku (great thing to have if you have Netflix and don't have a laptop with HDMI) which is plugged into my 50" Panisonic Viera Plasma, stuck that into this adapter and then into the laptop and then watched last weeks's Fringe on Hulu with no problems. I did absolutely nothing but plug it in. Computer problems I don't like because I work in I.T. and don't take computer problems home. This product is highly recommended!!Update - as another poster said - "....I bought this adapter with BargainCell. It was supposed to be a StarTech brand. However, the actual adapter I received was another brand. .... BTW, the other brand adapter works." The other brand that I recieved from Bargincell looks like the one pictured as a "premium" adapter from another Amazon seller. No guarantee what you will get, but sounds like they both work.

Works Like a Charm
I have a Lenovo T410 and no one seemed to know exactly what that port on the side of my computer actually was. I heard repeatedly that it was an HDMI port. It is clearly not. That said, now that the mystery has been solved and the right adapter purchased, life is good! Regarding the adapter itself, it works just fine. The only thing I will mention is that you definitely have to press down the "button" to remove it from the port. It seems that when you do that, there's no problem with removing it. What it does is move the sharp, pokey things that keep it secure in the port out of the way so it can slide freely out. The comments that others made about turning on the sound are correct - just go to the control panel and change the default to the TV rather than the computer. The picture is good and the sound is good and all in all, I'm a fan. The only downside I can think of to watching TV from my computer on my TV is that I don't have a remote! Wow, can we say spoiled?!?) Overall, I'm pleased with this purchase.

A Computer-TV Mating Solution
In their wisdom, computer manufacturers have turned up their noses at HDMI and adopted a "better" video standard: DisplayPort. Unfortunately, the only things that use DisplayPort are other computers. If you want to put all that video (and audio) power to work, you need something like the StarTech DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter Converter. It does not require extra power or a separate audio channel. You just plug it into your DisplayPort and then plug an HDMI cable between it and your HDMI destination. Your desktop never looked so good on your big screen. It's an incredibly inexpensive solution, and it works great.

I'm no expert, but this works for me.
Wanted to surf the web and watch stuff on a 40" Visio. My laptop has a DisplayPort, not an HDMI connection. So, I purchased this hoping it would do the trick. It works perfectly. When this is hooked up to the laptop with an HDMI cable attached to the flat screen, the audio and video are fed through the Visio. I had thought the sound might not be transmitted through this device, but I was wrong! This little guy was all I needed to now be able to watch internet content on the large screen. I love it!

This is my second Star Tech Display port to HDMI adapter that works well on ThinkPad docking station. I bought one about a year ago and this is the second. It just works!
