I bought this fan to replace a loud 16 year old Nutone that died suddenly. I was going to just get the current version of the same fan but found that Nutone has reduced their fan box sizes. That made the existing hole in the ceiling too large and I didn't want to do any patching. So I looked around for fans that would fit with the hole I had and came across this Panasonic which was just large enough for the fan box rim (inserted up from the bottom) to cover the hole all the way around. Installation was really easy - I did have access from the attic which helped and was necessary because the old fan would not have fit through the hole. The one challenge I had was that the ceiling was hung from stringers running perpendicular to the joists. The stringers created enough of a gap under the joists that the standard screw holes in the Flex bracket were below the joists with the bracket flush to the top of the ceiling. Luckily the Flex bracket has a set of holes in raised tabs that high enough to screw into the joists. One thing to note is that when you turn the power on, it takes a full second for the fan to start to turn and maybe 30 seconds to get up to full speed. This isn't a problem in use, but when I had first wired it up and it didn't come on right away, I thought I had made a wiring mistake. The multi-speed option is great - I was replacing a 110CFM fan and found that the 80CFM setting (which is quieter) was good enough. Also, I was wondering if a 10W LED light was going to be bright enough, but it is brighter than the 100W bulb in the old one. The biggest problem with this fan is that it is quiet enough that, if there is any other noise in the bathroom, you can’t tell if it is running or not. Not a bad problem to have….
