Errors throughout, still a great tool.
Although I am having fun using this book to expand my Spanish vocabulary as I get further into the book there are several errors in the terms, spacing issues, and it makes me distrust the information in the cultural sections. I am still learning from it, and I think it's a valuable book for beginners. I think there could have been more attention to detail from the editor.

The perfect guide for this Spanish Speaking Mama with English Speaking Kiddos
I am a fluent spanish speaking mother who never taught her children how to speak spanish and now I regret it. lol Ok so although I am fluent I honestly had no idea where to start with my children who already are used to me speaking English with them and don't even know the basics of Spanish so I bought this book (and several others) to give me a road map on where to start. Out of all my purchases for this issue this one is my favorite. It has mini lessons based on conversational spanish that begin with vocabulary. So now I know what to focus on first. It has grammar notes, cultural notes and phonetic spelling. The cultural notes are not just Mexico or Spain related and introduces many spanish speaking countries and their different cultures. I plan on using this little cultural note to point me towards teaching my children more about other countries. I will have to change a few words in the book for my specific dialect which is OK I am not complaining!

Great book that needs editing.
I bought this book for my family to learn Spanish. It is broken down into useful units of conversation. Along with a phonetic guide. The thing that bothered me as a Mexican Spanish speaker was that this pronunciation encourages a common American approach to the "e" vowel which turns it into the dipthong "ay" and that is what she writes as the pronunciation. For example the word sietate reads see-yeh-tah-tay so the Spanish spelling is incorrect, sit down is actually sientate and pronounced see-yehn-ta-teh.I liked the structure and organization of the book but feel this should have been edited by a native Spanish speaker. Fortunately I am making this corrections for my family. If you buy the book you should run it by a Spanish speaker.

Great for helping incorporate Spanish into daily family life!
I am teaching Spanish to my homeschooled children and wanted to find some texts and workdbooks to complement our Duolingo lessons (free online lessons similar to Rosetta Stone). After looking at no less than 50 different books, I chose this, and I love it. It is full of helpful phrases and lessons that we can incorporate into our daily life a few at a time. I make flashcards of the phrases, and also make a list on a board of phrases for the kids to practice when communicating as a family. For example, one of the phrases this week, they had to ask for things by saying "Puedo tener ____" (Can I have ____?). Each week's lessons covers a different set of phrases or subject matter. We make flash cards to practice, and it has been a great building tool for our vocabulary and application. It is helping us find ways to actually use the language we are learning in our home as we communicate as a family.

Easy way to learn conversational Spanish
This book helps you learn conversational Spanish at your own speed. It takes the stress out of trying to memorize verb tenses, plural or singular subjects and verbs. And it does this by starting out with short sentences. Some are even one word sentences like the Spanish word "hola" which means Hello in English. It's a fun and simple way to start speaking Spanish right away. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn conversational Spanish.

Learn Spanish and Really Use It!
I teach a Mommy & Me Spanish class and I am using 52 Weeks of Family Spanish as our book. I think this book is a great resource for parents who would like to help their kids begin using Spanish everyday in their daily routines. The book teaches nearly 200 new words and phrases and suggests games or activities to practice using those new words and phrases. Those who are not fluent in Spanish or well-versed in grammar will like this book as the lessons are concise and not overwhelming. Unfortunately families cannot learn Spanish completely from a one-hour lesson a week--that is why I love this book because it helps families start using Spanish at home in their everyday lives in fun, engaging ways.

Good for beginning.
Helpful if you have a family to use with. Not great for solo. It does get some easier words started if you put it to use with Spanish speakers as you run into them. Also helps build confidence.

Good way to practice and start
If you are interested in learning Spanish this is a great book to start. You really have to be dedicated to using the language daily. It is easy to loose the lessons if you do not practice during the week. The book has been helpful with the kids learning in school and trying to help them with their homework.

Really good for starting small talk in spanish
It is a really good book for starting small talk in Spanish and it has the basic conversations that one needs to communicate basic things. I like it .It is not a full method though that would get one student to level 2 in Spanish for instance. But for a little child it does the trick to get her /him interested in learning Spanish.

Two Stars
Rather too simple for my purposes.

Three Stars
Written for an American audience, and would have been more helpful if pronunciations were written.

Family Spanish time
I bought this as a stocking stuffer for my husband and i am glad I did. He has taken to reading it and practicing with us all every night at dinner. My 2 year old daughter has even picked up a few words and asks to read from it! She calls it the Hola book.
