The title says it all...
I've been knitting for a while but I'm new to cabling. I was able to teach myself how to make cables with this book. While it might not be the most exhaustive reference on cable patterns, the ones it does include are beautiful. However, this is not a stitch dictionary, but rather a step by step guide to making cables for the first time. In that sense, I found it excellent. There are close up pictures in color of each step in the process of making a simple cable, and you build from there to other more complex cable patterns, which are also pictured up close and in color. The patterns are both written out (which I oddly prefer) and charted for you. The cable projects included, like a tea cosy, a scarf, some cushions, baby blanket, purse, etc. are pretty and I can see myself making a few of them, but mainly I bought the book to learn cabling and it worked for me! There is also a section on mock cables which helped take the mystery out of making those as well. With what I've learned from this book, I now feel ready to tackle some of those patterns I'd been avoiding because they included cable panels :-)

Knitting happy cables
I consider myself an advanced knitter, though not an expert. I've known how to knit simple cables for a few years, but have shied away from more complex cabled projects. I bought this book to learn more about cabling. The book has wonderfully large and bright images that allow you to really see how the stitch pattern is suppose to look. I was pleasently surprised by the beginning of the book, which has basic information about yarn selection, yarn labels, knitting tools and cable needles, and guage which certainly taught me a few new things. I was disappointed with the lesson on charts; it should provide more instruction and information about chart symbols. I'd say about 1/3 of the book is actually about mock cables. The remaining 2/3 covers a diversity of cables such as cable panels, trellis, knots, traveling, etc. Most of the projects are small, such as pillows or purses, which I probably won't knit, but will use the pattern in my own projects. Overall, I'm very satisfied with the book and think it has something to offer all knitters, be they beginners or intermediates.

Takes the fear out of learning cables
I’ve wanted to try knitting cables but always thought they were beyond me—until this book took the mystery out of how they are constructed. The photos are nicely rendered providing lots of inspiration as well. I suppose that advanced knitters might have already found other books with more advanced cable examples. This isn’t for them. I have found it quite helpful getting started.

Knitting in general is tricky, but like the book, pictures are very clear.
Have to work the patterns for the instructions to become clear, good pictures. Interesting stitches, some instructions are tricky and need work. In conclusion, I like the book.

Like a Gift Candy Store & More
The Very Easy Guide to Cable Knitting:This book is a wonderful reference book, but, more importantly, the projects offered to try out the methods are ones I would like to make. This is most unusual. The projects are modern, suitable to make as gifts, and made me entusiastic to try. I purchased this book to learn how to make cables more expertly and it filled the bill admirably.

awesome
There is nothing quite like opening a new book especially one that holds so many different lessons. After learning from the dvd format I am now comfortable trying it all. I love this, it covers so many different techniques and they are all relatively easy to follow. The road to discovery is wide open to anyone who is inclined to learn this craft.

Great
I have a hard time reading crafting directions and have the projects turn out well. I just started knitting last month and made my first scarf and avoided learning cables. Over this snowy weekend I could knit half the cables in the book and started my first project. Its a good tool with good references in the back
