You should use 22 or 24 gauge wire for it. Telephone cat4 or Network cable cat 5 or cat 6 works just fine.

Q: Will pets set it off?

Hello Ralph. This a tough question. It really depends on the size of your pets and the placement of the sensor. We have found that smaller dogs and typical cats don't set this off, but again, it really depends on where you place this sensor. We apologize about the vague answer. It's very hard to give a more accurate answer without seeing your pets and where you're planning to place the sensor.

Q: Will this work on a normaly open system?

The output relay on this PIR has both a NO and NC option, so yes it will work with your system. Thanks!

Hello. That's a good question. The only systems that our tech team has worked on have been the more expensive commercial grade alarm systems so we wouldn't have any suggestions for "basic" systems. Having said that, pretty much any alarm system that allows for hard wired sensors will work with this PIR motion sensor.
