bringing history to life
loved this IMPOSSIBLE RESCUE. THIS event took place in the late 1800's. I think this would be a feat to accomplish today. Many, many actual photos and the detailed account make for a very interesting real life story. It was an a rescue that did not make the National News, but should have. Great read for me

fascinating story of triumph over multi-layered challenges
I've read quite a few books on man's adventures and misadventures on both poles - this one starts with an impossible challenge to rescue whalers trapped by ice. The use of locals, dogs and even Reindeer shows an uncommon determination to succeed. Beautiful, clear, and well described photos accompany this book that you'll never want to give away - loan maybe.Well done!

what a story
Lots of heroes in this story. Incredible mission successfully accomplished. I enjoyed reading the epilogue as much as the book as it told what happened to all these heroes in the aftermath of this great expedition.

Lost Values
This true historical mission displays determination, ingenuity and sense of duty to a cause larger then oneself that seems to be almost nonexistent in today's society. A truly inspirational tale that illustrates there is no I in team. In today's fractured and selfish society this novel makes one nostalgic for the days when we had a greater sense of us. This tale shows how far humanity has come in achievements but how much we seem to have lost our sense of humanity and willingness to sacrifice for a larger cause.

Husband loved it
My husband is interested in books about rescues and missions so I bought this book for his birthday. He enjoyed reading it and looking at all the pictures. I'd say it was a win!

Fascinating Non Fiction
I'm rating The Impossible Rescue 5 stars because this account of the harrowing rescue of sailors whose ships had gotten caught in the ice off Alaska's coast was so well written. Since winter had come early without warning the sailors were left with limited provisions in subzero temperatures in increasingly worsening conditions. President McKinley ordered three men to carry out the overland rescue in the unforgiving Alaskan winter. This is a fascinating story with wonderful photos and an epilogue that tells you what happened to the people after the rescue.

Good, good story.
Having been to AK; Brookes Range, Atigun Pass and Mt. Denali, I can't even imagine the endurance and fortitude needed to live through the ordeals these men encountered. The story is well told and the pictures enhanced the experience. I do enjoy all things Alaska, this story was worth the journey.
