I will 100% recommend this game to anyone!! Well worth the buy!! This game is very similar to Gloomhaven's gameplay, but Familiars is WAY easier to play!! Each campaign is simple and quick, we have weekly game nights with our friends and we are able to go through a few maps a night!! Intriguing, humorous and hooking storyline and intricately detailed figurines!!This is an app/website based game!! The story is read through a narrative style with various charming voices for each character!! And as you work through the map, you will have to log and follow the websites prompts!! Which was sometimes hard to remember to do at the start!!The only downside: the instructions arent very clear on some hiccups we have encountered during play... so prepare for some creative house rules if online sources can't help!!

We played as a family with our 4th grader and kindergtener. Our kids needed a little help understanding the mechanics, but the story was great for everyone. It was great to have a cooperative game instead of playing against each other. We were sad when it was over, because we wanted to keep going.

Amazingly immersive. This game has really allowed my family to dive in and play. Spending hours and days together is the greatest gift and this adventure provides just that. Secondly, we've all developed a new hobby! Miniature painting! We've fallen in love with the characters and are enjoying bringing them to life. Would highly recommend!

Wonderful Story with Awesome Characters that make this game so much Fun and repayable.

We had a ton of fun as always, but lots of rules were unclear and it would have been nice to have access to a more thorough set of rules like they did for Mice and Mystics, maybe via pdf or Web site, since it is a huge cost to make all the rule books (pretty though they are). We are looking forward to playing it again, though.

My wife and I (this is the husband, logged in as wife) play this with our 11 and 12 year old daughters. We have done Descent and Star Wars: Imperial Assault as well. We enjoy the idea of co-op games, and do great understanding complex games.Pros:+ One of the developers has been personally responding to questions on his intro youtube video. That is HUGE! The personal touch of that makes me want to play other Plaid Hat Games!+ Using the app brings in solid voice acting and music. Really, it is fun having that atmosphere.+ Narrative is kinda interesting, as it flows from one chapter to another. There are x3 “eras”, each with x3 chapters.+ We enjoy painting miniatures, and these are well cast without having to put them together/glue. Ready to paint if you choose+ We are into car collection games (Marvel Legendary, Clank!, Dominion), and this has an element of that.+ Co-op aspect of assisting each other during skill tests is kinda fun. We all get into which card helps the most, who will get beat up by bad guys, and understanding which of the x4 characters has best abilities to use.+ LOVE how we have to make choices on the app that affect the story. Don’t cheat, just make the best choice!Cons:- Don’t know that there is much risk to having your character die, or losing a match. Perhaps this isn’t a big Con, since the goal is to play/understand the narrative of the story, but it is nice to have pressure.- A few of the item cards have wording that could be interpreted a couple of ways. Normally when this happens in deck-building games you can search online for how others interpreted the cards; not a big deal. But with the game just recently coming out, there isn't much of that to find yet.- Main characters have special things they can be/do, but would have been nice if the differences were a bit stronger. In fairness, each player’s cards DO have good differences. One has great melee attack, 1 has great ranged attack, one has great insight skills tests, and one has great defense to soak up hits. But the characters could have shown different “features/abilities”.Really, that’s all I have for cons. And the cons have pros tucked into them.Solid game, great feedback from developers, a LOT of care taken into this beautiful game, and fun for the family!If you are willing to dive into a story/narrative and put in 30-45 minutes per match and come back with the same crew down the road to continue, this is a win. Really, solid win.
