Great aluminum valve cover!
Can’t beat it for the price. Valve cover comes painted silver. Packaging is great. Gaskets are good and it comes with new hardware. M54b30.

This thing is surprisingly good
Didn’t expect much but fit and finish is spot on. Gasket looked ok too but I used Genuine BMW. Flawless paint? Nah. But who cares, it’s a cleaner look than black plastic anyway.

Definitely worth the price to upgrade.
About a month after I installed this valve cover, my car had an engine coolant issue and overheated for a short period of time. The intake manifold which was also plastic, separated along the seam and had to be replaced. I performed a leak test on the valve cover and it was just fine. A plastic cover would have warped in a heartbeat. The only thing that could be a little better would be the connection to the pcv hose. It doesn't have a defined lip around the port for the hose to lock onto. Other than that, great product and it looks good under the hood.

Be Certain To Check Thoroughly!
My plastic valve cover cracked at the hold-down after the 6th spark plug hole. I was debating whether to go with the M56 cover or not, but decided to keep it factory. I wanted to ditch the plastic cover, and go aluminum. ECS even carries an aluminum cover now, very similar to this, so the manufacturing should be pretty solid. My first cover showed up without outside damage, but upon inspection, there was damage by the CCV hose connection. You can see it in the pictures. It must have been dropped or banged during manufacturing, since there is silver paint over the damaged area. I noticed this before getting ready to put it on the vehicle. Amazon swapped out the part, no questions, and the second one arrived without damage. When you get your valve cover, sit down, light some candles, turn on soft music, and get to know your valve cover. Look for cracks, dings, or anything out of the ordinary. There are some sharp edges to be cautious of. If you have a deburring tool, that would work great. This metal is pretty soft, so even a spaded screwdriver can take off edges. The CCV cover was on so tight, I was not going to try to force the screws out. There was pretty serious edges on the oil cap area underneath. I flatted them out, and the OEM cover sealed tightly, and was able to go on and off no problem. I did not use the oil cap, gasket, or hold down bolts from this kit.Good investment, I think it was worth the price, and I would recommend it. Just make sure you look it over really good before using it. Third image is with the cover in place in the vehicle. No more cracked plastic cover, no more oil leaking! Looks nice!

Aluminum over plastic
I am so pleased with this product. After installing it my vacuum issues disappeared. I am no longer running rich and the engine is operating more efficient.

Poor casting
It has a hairline crack right on top. Even though I'm exited that aluminum valve covers are available for the m54 engine but the quality control is not there yet.

Bad finish and warped cover. Feels pretty cheap
Major scratches and paint defects and warped. I tried doing the flat surface test and there is a clear 1/4inch gap on one side not the other. This will not be going on my car I would like a refund unless you guys think you can make it right? I’m just baffled these are not checked for flatness before being shipped out. There must not be a whole lot of quality control going on. I took the chance on this because I’ve heard some people having a good experience with your aluminum covers and my engine badly needs a leak free sealing cover!
