Lettering For Beginners: A Creative Lettering How To Guide With Alphabet Guides, Projects And Practice Pages

I've read other reviews that have complained about the "lack of actual teaching", but as with any for of writing, it is a matter of practicing to perfect the are. I loved this me way the instructions were given and that were was a lot of practice space (though I personally need a LOT MORE practice!).There are books out there with very detailed "instructions", but they aren't necessarily about the technical aspect of lettering as much as this book gives isn't covered as well anywhere that I have found. Of course before I purchased the book, I watched YouTube videos to see it being done- and it IS more difficult than it looks (though some of mine looks like it was done by my 3 year old niece).I would definitely suggest this book to anyone who is interested in trying it out to see if they enjoy it before purchasing more equipment. Plus THIS book makes it EASY to figure out what you are doing and put it all in simple terms. Unless you intend to make Lettering a serious career and need to know the history and such, don't bother with the detailed "novels" of instruction. If you need to WATCH it being done, there are always videos online to help.I also want to take a moment and mention the absolutely INCREDIBLE customer service. That is something all companies should have a focus on, and if other companies followed thins one's lead, the world would be a lot better place. They actually sent me a personal email a few days after I got the book to ask how I was liking it. I've gotten the blanket "tell us how we did" statement, but this blew me away!!!!

I'm so happy I ordered the book Lettering for Beginners! The book gives you a step-by-step process to improve your handwriting.I always heard about the power of good handwriting. It says a lot about you and it can open many doors. It has been said that you can't get a high-ranking, noble job without beautiful penmanship. It's also well-known that many a heart has been opened by a nicely crafted letter. If you've never been taught the art of writing, this book would be a great place to start.The book begins with instruction and practice on form with individual letters. I was pleasantly surprised to see that several different styles were taught, including script, serif, and sans-serif. Later in the book, we are given the chance to learn how to integrate these individual letters to form beautifully written words. I like how I'm able to trace the words before I attempt to write them independently.I've written a few notes since buying the book and I have received so many compliments on my handwriting. Can't say how awesome it feels to be able to make a simple note into a piece of artwork. It adds so much to the message!I keep the book for reference and I look back at it before crafting a new note. I also find that practicing is a very peaceful, soothing, almost meditative practice. In the middle of my day, I take a few minutes a write notes on beautiful stationary and then send them out. This practice works wonders! People appreciate the detail and recognize the uniqueness of the gesture.I'm so thankful I took the step to improve my handwriting by buying Lettering for Beginners. It has made a real difference!

This is a good practice book for beginners who are interested in learning modern calligraphy or hand lettering. For the price, I am satisfied but there are a few things to note and as a beginner I wish I had known before expecting too much out of it. First, it does not teach you anything (stokes, technique, height etc) so you may be better off going down to Hobby Lobby and buying a more educational book. Second, I’ve included pictures of how thin the paper is, there is some ghosting (I was using a Tombow Fude hard tip). I do like how it has space for extra practice and includes words to practice as well. Overall, I’m happy with the purchase and I will keep it to practice in as I continue my journey learning.

I love the price for the size and information included. I’m completely new to this way of writing and am excited to try. There are practice pages and quotes with varied styles. The ONLY thing I wish had been included, was arrows indicating how to write the letter. Where do I start and do I do one continuos movement? I’ll look on YouTube to fill in the blanks for me. For 6.99, this paperback book is made of sturdy paper and covers and larger in size than a piece of paper. The photo, to me, looked as if the book was paperback size.

I was rather disappointed with this book as the letters were not anything like calligraphy. The teacher, way back in the dark ages, that talk me how to write cursive would be appalled. The lettering loops parts of a letter that shouldn't be looped, adds to the letters which frankly, I find hard to read. Considering this is supposed to be a book for beginners, it has little in the way of instruction on how to make the letters. I would have returned it, but for the practice pages included in the book and for the price of the book, worth keeping it for those whether I am copying the letters from the book or not. Incidentally the lettering on the front cover of the book is the lettering that the book 'teaches'.

I am thrilled with his book! It's easy to follow and the results are immediate. I do some volunteer fundraising for my childrens' schools, and I can't wait to start sending hand-written solicitations and thank-you notes with my new lettering skills when school starts back. I've never been confident about by my penmanship, but the techniques in this book have helped me immensely. I've looked at other hand-lettering books, but they are so expensive and seemed complicated. This was an affordable and very effective alternative. I'm so glad I found it, and I highly recommend it.

this book is great for learning lettering! in no time, I was able to pick up the technique, and it gives you plenty of space to practice on your own. I am planning my wedding and im a bit of a DIY'er, so by getting this book I am now able to make my own signs that I needed for my decorations, instead of paying twice as much for someone else to make them!

Mi hermana le empezo a gustar el lettering y este libro era una buena forma para empezar. Fue un regalo ideal y esta muy chido, se los recomiendo, una excelente compra. Llego a tiempo recado, mas rápido de lo que tenían contemplado amazon.

Very helpful for beginners like me with calligraphy! I learned the basics of a few different fonts, which should help me for when I want to head to a more intermediate level.

I thought this book would be good for calligraphy but it’s more geared for the modern writing. Which will come in handy once I’ve learned proper calligraphy.
