NOT PLUG AND PLAY AS ADVERTISED
I did my research, made sure that this product was compatible with my printer and placed my order. Amazon got the item to me in 2 days(fast), I read the instructions, installed the unit as per instructions, all seemed to be going smoothly, the X on the top of the unit turned orange and pulsed slowly(like it should) but low and behold my printer would not print from my ipad. I got online and looked up Lantronix, got to their help line and what do you know, it was past their business hours. I called Lantronix the next day, got hooked up with a gentleman named Kevin, he was very helpful but a little over my head on the computer lingo, he tried to help but of course I was at work and my printer and Lantronix device were at home so he emailed me some instructions to try when I got home. I tried doing everything that I had been instructed to try but I could not get the Lantronix print server to acknowledge my ipad or my husband's iphone. I wanted this device to work but in the end I returned it to Amazon(easy process) and got all my money refunded. I now have a printer with eprint capabilities and had I known before how easy it was to hook up and have my wireless devices (ipad, iphone, laptops, etc..) connected I don't think I would have messed around with the Lantronix print server. Two good things from this experience were, The folks at Lantronix are extremely helpful and follow through until the end and Amazon, once again proves that they can be trusted when they say easy returns! Thank you Amazon !

As Simple As It Claims! - But Watch for Compatibility
I purchased the Lantronix xPrintServer Home Edition AND the Enterprise Edition as part of a project to enable simple iOS device printing. The Home Edition performed exactly as advertised. Plug it in, give a minute or two to scan for your printers...then start using it. It was truly that simple and works great.Just tap the "Print" button in your app, and your printer(s) will appear in the list. Aside from "Duplex On/Off" you do NOT have control over printer options such as paper tray selection, etc. from the print dialog. It will print with the settings that are resident on the printer. We installed the Enterprise Edition at work. Unfortunately, this did not work out as well. Our office has several enterprise class MFP printers. Specifically Ricoh MP5500's and Ricoh C2500's as well as many HP consumer grade printers. The Ricoh's are where we would desire all iOS printing to arrive whereas the HPs are in the warehouse.Although the Enterprise Edition discovered all of the printers, it could only print successfully to the HPs and (for some reason) the Ricoh C2500. The MP5500's print garbage and all black pages when attempted from an iOS device. Since the xPrintServer device is not at all configurable, this won't work out for us in the office. We have contacted the manufacturer to see if they will make improvements to make this printer series compatible. THEN I will consider installing one at each of our branches. Until then...no go! If you have printers that it recognizes properly with drivers, you'll love the convenience of this device as well.Coming back to the Home Edition, I think it's a great device that has appropriate driver compatibility with many consumer grade printers. It's easy to install and delivers exactly what was claimed. I recommend this device to anybody wanting to finally print from an iPhone, iPod, iPad without having to set up a dedicated Print Server on a workstation.Amazon, as always, processed the order quickly, maintained good update communications, and delivered on time. One technical note for those interested...The instructions indicate you have to plug the device into a "router" to get it to work. They are over generalizing. This works just fine if it's hanging off a network switch or even an open network wall port.

Somewhat Okay Sometimes
This thing is really great in concept and easy to configure (the UI is good, too), but it's just too unreliable. I had to contact support to get one of my printers to work, and the Lantronix support staff were very helpful and prompt to respond -- no complaints there. But since then, it's been pretty hit or miss. Because I don't print very much (probably once or twice a month), the thing is basically always offline when I want to use it. I go look at the device and the X is blinking. I unplug and plug it back in, then it works. Also, about half the time it prints an "X" at the top of the page for some unknown reason. That's really awesome when you've put a blank sheet of labels in, and then everything is shifted and your sheet is ruined. I'm going to keep using it because I paid for it and it basically sometimes works (and maybe better with future firmware updates), but I would probably figure out some other solution if I had a do-over.Update: I ended up pairing it with a Belkin WEMO switch and IFTTT to turn it off and on a couple times during the day, and it generally seems to be working most times when I need it. Pretty ridiculous to have to reboot it constantly to keep it working, though.
