Loved the book

Perfect guide to bring for safari/bush hikes. I used it every day! Pics, distribution and descriptions included which was super helpful - and included a lot of different species ranging from plants to insects to mammals and fish.

Appreciate having a guide like this and hope to put it to good use! Having over 2,000 species is a nice collection to represent commonly encountered species. Also good to have distribution maps and appreciate seeing specific flowering months for the wildflowers.

It's a really great book. HOWEVER, I was very mistaken thinking Zambia is Southern Africa when it's central. But luckily, it borders Zimbabwe so that helped me out a little bit during my trip to Zambia. I would recommend this book if you are indeed going to SOUTHERN Africa.

I have used this book as a reference. I watch Safari Live on YouTube. When they identify a type of Wildlife during the show, I check it off in the book. I use the book to learn more about the creatures of our world.

A great resource in detail of animal life in South Africa.

Excellent resource and fairly light weight. Not truly comprehensive however.

If you just want to go through page by page then maybe the Kindle version would work for you. This book has a lot of species and no search function. "The index that appeared in the print version of this title was intentionally removed from the eBook. Please use the search function on your eReading device to search for species of interest. For your reference, the species that appear in the print index are listed below." I find search on Kindles very clunky, and unless you know exactly the name of the organism you are looking for, and its correct spelling, it is VERY hard to find what you are looking for. The print version might be good, but I can't carry a lot on my trip to South Africa.

i have not used it in the field but it seems very good i would prefer if it is poisonous i would prefer that to be highlighted better but apart from that really good

Nice book. Has a good selection of wildlife as well as what you see illustrated on the cover.

Nach einem traumhaften Urlaub im südlichen Afrika habe ich zur Nachbereitung und Vorbereitung auf die nächste Reise nach einem Buch gesucht, in dem Flora und Fauna umfassend darstellt werden - nicht nur Säugetiere. In Deutsch gibt es leider nichts, das ist aber nicht das größte Problem. Das Buch ist hinsichtlich der Anzahl der beschriebenen Arten sehr umfangreich. Da bleibt dann nur wenig Platz für die Beschreibung jeder einzelnen Spezies. Zeichnung, Verbreitungsgebiet, das war es. Aber für den Preis gibt es nichts vergleichbares. Für eine umfassende Übersicht gut, wenn man mehr über die Lebewesen wissen möchte, muss man sich mehrere andere Titel zulegen.

Wonderful general book on S.African wildlife. Arrived in good condition.

I bought a copy of this book over 20years ago thought I would like an up to date version, did not disappoint. Thankyou.
