I am very happy with my 32inch sledge/maul handle. This was my first time hanging any type of hammer and it was a breeze. I removed all lacquer with sand paper and gently placed head on the top. It started at only going about 1/3 of the way down. I drew a pencil line around the bottom and removed head and used a wood rasp to remove more material until I was about 3/4 of where I wanted it to go and then just let gravity and the weight of the ten pound sledge do the rest of the work to get a really tight fit. Wooden wedge went in with a lot of hammering and same for the metal wedge after I cut off the excess wood. I only wish I didn't have to touch up paint the head after cutting which is my fault and I replaced the lacquer with boiled linseed oil instead.

Proper grain orientation. Straight. It fits. Comes with wooden wedge and steel keeper wedge. It arrived three days earlier than expected. I'm totally satisfied with the purchase. For those that don't aprove of its protective lacquer finish, you can easily scrape it off and sand it while your mommy is cutting your meat for you.

Local hardware big box only carries the normal size (~16lb) replacement sledge hammer handle which will not work on a 20 lb. It took a little whittling to get the handle to fit my old sledge hammer. Soaked the end with Minwax wood hardener to lube and when it dries, for hardening the wood. It is a good tight fit, put the wooden wedge, then the small metal wedge, so the handle should not loosen or come off. It was my fathers hammer who had it since the 1960's so no idea of the hammer's manufacturer. Not busting too many rocks now but it works great in smashing aluminium cans. Just lift the 20 lbs straight up, let the handle slip on an upright can - it is then completely flat for recycling. I prefer this method to flatten cans rather that using the lever type can crusher.

comes with all needed hardware. had to sand the handle down a little to fit in my old 8lb sledge. took maybe about 30mins of sanding. (that's with much checking to make sure i didnt sand too much) hammered in the wooden wedge and then the metal piece in the other direction. my sledge is now ready for more action!

Made it fit perfect into my sledge head. Worked great

Good replacement with caveats:1) Whatever varnish the manufacturer applied filled the end gap where the wedge is inserted. Took a while to clean out the varnish.2) Had to sand down anywhere from 1/8 to 3/16" along the wide part of the oval to fit the sledge head.Haven't yet put the sledge hammer through its' paces, however, fit is now tight and handle seems solid. I'll update review if necessary.

Since I live pretty far out of town Amazon Prime with free shipping saves me time and gas money. The replacement handle was fine. I was about 4" shorter than the other handle, but it's still plenty long enough to swing with force.

Fit my splitting maul perfectly

I used this handle with a 6lb maul head and it only lasted about 30 pieces of white poplar before the handle sheered off below the maul head. I wrap tape around my handles below the head to protect the handle and to let me know if someone has been hitting the wood blocks with the handle. . Not a mark or any damage to the tape from it touching wood. I would definitely not recommend this product unless someone only wants to use it as a prop in a movie because it won’t last in the real world.

Without these handles, you wouldn't be reading this. I HIGHLY recommend.
