Butter Branches
I work in a State Park and we do a LOT of landscaping and trail work. Previously we were using an old gas powered trimmer that worked but wow, you had to work really hard along with it. Enter this bad boy and we were slicing saplings like they were destined for toast. I can't exaggerate the pleasure of maneuvering this light-weight tool, especially with the comparison of a typical gas powered one. It's also QUIET! The blade length is great, operation is very simple and straight forward and I've found the battery usage to be as advertised, about an hour. I did purchase a second battery for this because, as mentioned, we do a lot of trail work and the last thing you want is to run out of power a mile in. Switch out is an ease. All in all, couldn't be happier with this purchase

Trim your bushes and give your arms a workout at the same time!
Lots of power from a rechargeable. Works with same batteries as all DeWalt 40V tools. Plenty of time on these batteries to do quite a bit of trimming. Downside is that your arms may give out before the batteries. Weight is very similar to a gas powered trimmer, but no gas, oil, plugs, etc. This is nowhere near as light as a corded trimmer - but there is also no cord to cut! Bottom line go to a home supply store and hold one of these for a few min before you decide to buy. If you are not bothered by the weight buy it!

Be Very Weary, The BATTERY Does NOT Last...
I bought this Dewalt hedge trimmer just days over a year ago. I used it several times last year and put it away. So time to use it again this year and I pop the battery in the charger, and the charger gives a rapid on off blinking light, which indicates something WRONG with either the charger or battery pack. So I call the number on the battery and talk with Dewalt customer service. First person, who is hard to understand tells me that the light on the charger should stay on after it's plugged in, with no battery in it. I though that sounded highly unusual but OK, she must know, and she tells me I have to send the charger in to a service center to have it checked out, and that if they find it's faulty, they'll send me another one. So I get an email with a shipping label, fine, but I had one more quick question so I called back. Second DeWalt C.S. person tells me the same thing, that the charger light should be on, solid, after plugging it in, even without a battery in it, but this person wondered why the first person was having me send the old charger in. I didn't know, that's not my job, but she just sent me a new charger. Get the new charger, plug it in, does exactly the same thing the old charger does, the light comes on for a second then goes off. Regardless of what the two ladies told me, I'm pretty sure that's what it's SUPPOSED to do. Indicate it has power then go off. Anyway, I plug the battery into the charger and again, rapid on off blinking indicating there's something wrong with either the charger or battery pack. I highly doubt both chargers are bad, so obviously the battery is beyond being charged, in ONE YEAR. So I called back for a third time and explained everything that happened up to this point, and even though the battery was technically past it's ONLY ONE YEAR warranty, she said I called in the first time soon enough that they were going to send me a new battery. I haven't gotten the new battery yet, but it should show up any day now. I have no doubt the new battery is the fix. HOWEVER, and here's why the 2 stars, if these batteries only last ONE YEAR, there's no way I'd EVER recommend anyone buy this, because I paid $199 for the hedge trimmer AND charger with battery, but a new battery alone is $181.00..!! So the hedge trimmer and charger are ONLY worth $18??!!! So then why are they selling the trimmer by itself for $179.00?? Somewhere in this deal the consumer is getting ROYALLY RIPPED OFF, and I think it's the price of the replacement battery, which conveniently only has a one year warranty, and that's all the longer it LASTS. So you're going to pay $181 to use this thing every year because you need to buy a new battery? Nope, if this new battery goes dead like the first one after another year, the whole thing is going to the DUMP. Pretty strange though. I have a cordless DeWalt drill with NINE year old batteries that still take a charge. I surely hope the first battery I got with this new hedge trimmer was just a lemon, and it lasts longer than a year. If it doesn't, I'll come back and give this item ONE star, and buy a GAS or CORDED hedge trimmer.

Amazing power
I had eleven over-grown bushes in the front of my house. My gas hedge trimmer needs work and had trouble keeping it running. Saw this battery operated machine that claimed to be as powerful as gas models. I would probably have laughed it off but it was a DeWalt. My experience with DeWalts is they don't make junk or make unsubstantiated claims. So, I spent the money (it wasn't cheap) and hoped for the best. I was amazed! It went through eleven bushes and still had power to spare! I would have had to stop and refuel my gas model. I am still in awe of the amount of power a battery operated machine can have! Maybe I won't be so dismissive of Tesla cars.

Powerful alternative to gas-powered trimmers
I was on the fence about getting a battery-powered trimmer vs. a gas-powered one. My concerns were around power and availability. I hate going to a battery-powered tool when I need it, only to find that the battery is dead (just from sitting). Since I use this tool a lot less frequently (than a drill for instance), that is less of an issue. Also, since the battery has a charge indicator on it, I can instantly know if it has enough juice to get the job done.As far as the power is concerned, this thing does everything I need it to. I have some very hearty shrubs and mature holly bushes, and this thing cuts right through them without any hesitation. And, the battery lasts a long time. It's heavier than I expected, but I've not found myself using it for more than an hour at a time, so it hasn't been an issue for me.I also appreciate the sheath for covering the blade when not in use.I've only had it for a short while, so I can't speak to its durability, but it appears to be well-built, and I'm expecting to get a lot of use from it.

Sails through mature hedges and shrubs.
Sails through our mature hedges, did the job in 1/3 the time it took our old electric hedge trimmer. A bit heavy at first, but we (females) quickly adjusted to holding it, working with it for 3 hours each day. Expensive, but worth it!

This thing cranks!
Received the trimmer, and the battery was fully charged in about 1 hour. Set out to trim the boxwoods and the privet hedges. This thing cut through without any effort at all. In less than 1 hour I had trimmed 15 feet of boxwoods, and 15 feet of (6 foot tall) privet bushes, cleaned up everything and was out back for a beer. I was a bit leery of spending $230.00, but this trimmer really works. Some reviews say that it is heavy, but it is also pretty well balanced, so it was not an issue for this 64 year old man.I give it 4 stars because it has a custom battery. I wished it would have used 2, 20Volt batteries, like my radial saw and lawn mower.Sawsallscott

Known fault with battery
The trimmer works quite well and has good cutting power and a long blade which helps for straight cuts on hedges. The battery is terrible though. Mine lasted a full season before dying. I've returned it for an exchange but it has been about a month now and the battery is still back ordered. This becomes triple frustrating as I moved my blower, trimmer and weed eater all to this 40V system. If you look on DeWalt's own web site you'll see the reviews of the 40v battery. Some people have had multiple batteries all die on them. It seems to be a well known issue with the design. I'd say "buyer beware".

Dewalt is one of my favorite brand but not any more
I bought it last year and used it once last summer. It's time to do another trimming today and it was working for 20 minutes before the motor burned and smoked. Completely dead now after 1.5 times use. Dewalt is one of my favorite brand but not any more.Follow up: Customer Service is not fast, be patient to get your email support...

Exceeds Expectations
Expensive - yes. But if long battery life and more then enough power to handle the biggest trim job then it is worth it.
