Great Bed BUT Not For Everyone
This is a great bed, however it is extremely important to point out that this bed is not going to be for everyone, it’s most likely not going to be what you’re expecting at first; and it’s going to take some getting used to.The mattress with extra padding is about 3-4” thick, this doesn’t mean that it’s plush though; it’s comfortable, but don’t expect to sink into the mattress like it’s a feather bed or memory foam.Getting a tatami sleeping mat, or similar sleeping mat for underneath the futon is essential, especially if your house has hardwood floors. The mat underneath adds comfort and also helps keep your mattress clean. This is a Higher Maintenance Mattress than Western Mattresses. Mold grows easily in these mattresses, mites are also attracted to them easily-keep this in mind if you live in a hot, humid climate. The mattress must be aired out anywhere from once a week to twice or more. To air them out, they should ideally be hung out on a clothes line in the sun, or on a clothing rack/chairs/etc. to allow it to dry. This is also where the folding everything up comes into play. It’s highly discouraged to leave a Futon like this laying out flat for days at a time, due to higher risk of attracting mold. So even if it’s not time to air out the mattress, you still should be folding up the sleeping mat, the futon, and your bedding; this way it’s not laying flat permanently. On the bright side, I’ve never slept better than I have on this, but that’s just me. I’m a light sleeper, the tension in western beds wakes me easily, for some reason I personally find myself in pain after sleeping on a western mattress for too long. I still experience some pain sleeping on this mattress, but I’m still getting used to it, however, I don’t feel any tension with this Mattress at all. I wake up far less than I used to.It also does help with back pain...BUT! This bed is not for everyone, it should not be taken as a miracle cure for back problems, or more serious forms of chronic back pain. However it does force the body to engage back muscles we often don’t use, I personally find that it’s been helpful, but that is just how my body’s responding. If none of this has deterred you yet, then I’d say the futon is worth a try. If you’re genuinely having some doubts after reading all of that, that’s good too. Hopefully some of this might’ve helped you make an informed decision.

Good for use when moving into a carpeted apartment
I mainly got this mattress for sleeping on the floor until I figure out getting a real mattress for my new apartment. So far I've slept 4 days on it and I like the firmness of it (combined with a somewhat fluffy carpet beneath) I can see why people say this is a very thin mattress but if it's placed on top of carpet it can be very comfortable for a back sleeper I think. I tend to go between back sleeping and side sleeping and it's a little uncomfortable for side sleeping but not extremely... There's really no difference in how I'm sleeping on this compared to a conventional mattress, I roll around as much as I did before. I mostly like it but may look into other thicker floor mattresses for my guests (once it retires to the closet) as I can't say everyone will enjoy it!

OMG
This futon has changed my life. I will admit I only allowed mines to air out for a day and a half before losing my mind and giving in to my selfish desires to lay on it. I did flap it like a towel over that day and a half hoping it would speed up the inflation process. It appeared to work somewhat. Now lets get to why I love this futon. I suffer from lower back pain and have heard over the years that futons are good for such things. I am thoroughly impressed by the comfort. It feels like im laying down on a firm bed and I can hardly feel the hard floor beneath me. However, if you do feel like feeling the floor beneath you in anyway could irritate you. I would go with the extra padding option amazon has available above. I would wager that extra padding could make a noticeble difference for even more comfort.Another reason why I bought this is because it will make moving out much easier as a college student. This futon is compact and when folded could fit in your trunk with relative ease. I cant imagine myself going back to using a regular full size bed now. Thank You Luxton I am a happy believer now.
