RealTruckAMP Research PowerStep Override Switch, Each | 79105-01A | Fits All AMP Research PowerSteps (Exept 75141-01A & 75134-01A)

Installed it over two days, about 4 hours each day. No hitches during installation. Works very well, and is the perfect height for a 4x4 sprinter van. Very solid. Everyone should have one of these power steps!

The switch works fine but is overpriced for what it is and does. The switch comes with plenty of wire for install. It is easiest to install the switch when the running boards are installed…but still fairly easy to install after the fact. Simple operation and useful…for the price of Amp running boards…they should come with this switch.

Only reason I give this a 4 is because for the money you send on the step this should be something that just comes with it. Other than that works as it’s supposed to

I like that it works like they said it would. I don't like the cost and my other control wouldn't work. The installation was easy to do.

This switch is required if you want to be able to control your AMP Power Steps. I think that is important because without it the steps deploy automatically. Most of the time that is fine but if for example you are parked close to a high curb you may not want them to deploy automatically and crash into it, or you may just want to deploy them for cleaning. The switch was easy to install, about an hour. The hardest part was finding a suitable spot on the dash and fishing the wires through the firewall, a bit tedious but not difficult. This was an new truck and the dealer installed the steps themselves but wanted $130 for the $40 switch and another $150 to install it as opposed to $35 on amazon. I'm rating it a poor value because it is little more than a switch and some wire with the plug ends attached and a couple small miscellaneous parts so even at $35 it's ridiculously overpriced. Additionally with the power step kit running $1300 and up and this switch being such an integral part it should just be included with the steps instead of being monetized as an accessory.

After I installed the switch, it's apparent that you should be able to add a door switch to make the rails stay up whenever the driver's door is opened. I added the rails for my 5-ft tall wife so she has an easier time climbing into my 2021 Jeep Rubicon, but they're in my way. using an SPST spring switch on the driver's door should allow me to "continuously" activate the switch, I think. (The success of this may depend on the "throw" of the switch.)

This override switch is a very overpriced accessory for the AMP Research Power Steps. It is basically a standard rocker switch, three lengths of 18 gauge wire, three butt connectors and a plug that connects this wiring to the control unit that is furnished with the Power Steps. By my estimate I could assemble the equivalent for less than $10. The control unit is already manufactured and built to accept this switch, and when considering the cost of the Power Step kit (on my truck it was $1500), including this $10 override capability as part of the standard package makes sense to me. It would also preclude having to run a second site of wires parallel to those already provided to power the steps, as the factory wiring harness could incorporate all of this wiring in one bundle.This override switch works but it chafes that AMP Research charges so much extra for a functionality that is already part of the control unit furnished with the Power Step kit.

Does exactly what it's intended to. Switch is small and discrete and has the harness to connect to the controller.
