Be wary of sellers supplying KX-TGA405EX instead of KX-A405
Although the item is listed for sale as model KX-A405, what I actually received from seller liGo was model KX-TGA405EX.It came in a generic cardboard box with a printed label (stating that it was a KX-A405) and no instruction manual, just a single photocopied instruction sheet. The label on the back of the repeater itself said KX-TGA405EX.The first sign of trouble was that the unit had already been registered - I had to deregister it before registration would work. It would then register with my KX-TG8562E base unit, apparently correctly, with both LEDs on the repeater showing green. However, the repeater had absolutely zero effect on the signal strength on my hand units. I tried with the repeater both next to my base unit and a couple of rooms away where there were still two bars of signal from the base unit. I then tried deregistering and reregistering twice, but there was no improvement. If you Google KX-TGA405EX you will find suspiciously little - for example, it's not a recognised code on the Panasonic website (KX-A405 is though). You will however find references to KX-TGA405 and KX-TGA405C, which come as a bundle, pre-registered to the base unit they are supplied with (sound familiar?). KX-TGA405B1 is offered for sale in the US by Smithgear with the warning "Extender will not work unless you have one of the base models listed below. Please do not order if your phone is not on this list." Needless to say my KX-TG8562E phone is not on the list.Returned to Amazon for a refund.

Useful extender
This repeater works a treat. I have a very old house with very think walls and this enables the signal to reach all rooms in the house and into the garden with ease. As mentioned by the other reviewers, it would be worth the repeater's instruction manual to mention that the base unit of the phone system needs to be put into repeater mode, but it is mentioned in the instructions on the phone system. I didn't need to do any fiddling about with registration. I just followed the instructions of pressing the Locator switch on the base unit and THEN turning on the repeater. Both green lights came on straight away. It took a few minutes for the distant handsets to pick up the repeater signal but I just let it get on with it.

A great little device
My Panasonic KX-A405 DECT Repeater repeater arrived very quickly and I intended to use it with my Panasonic KX-TG624E cordless ansaphone set. What should have been quick and simple took an hour or so of hair pulling (and I am a technician!!) because the instructions left out one vital step.On the KX-TG624E base station you MUST first set it to "Repeater Mode" - this is off by default and the repeater will not register to the base station until it is changed to ON.On a handset, choose "Initial Setup" OK (spanner symbol) then press the down arrow to cycle through the various options until you get to "Repeater Mode", press OK to select it and set it to "On".Job done. That simple!! but it is not mentioned in the instructions for the KX-A405 and it is a fairly obscure mention in the KX-TG624 manual. It is worth re-setting the Repeater by powering it up with the "program" button on the back depressed for 10 secs as described in the instructions.Having done that, unplug the power lead, press the speaker button on the base station for 5 sec to put it into "Registering Mode", power up the Repeater and after just a few seconds it will register, two green lights, and all is well. Press the speaker button again to cancel. If only mention was made of this by Panasonic or perhaps the supplier could have put a slip of paper mentioning this extra step in the boxHopefully this will help someone....A great little device, over priced of course!

How to make the right connection
IT SHOULD BE MADE CLEAR THAT INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO USE THIS ITEM ARE WITH THE PHONE MANUAL.I received a call from the supplier concerned at my poor feed back, who due to the fact that I have mobility problems exhibited supreme patience helping me, firstly to discover that it was not installed at all nd then to link it to the phone. The signal problems that had been plaguing me are gone and I am as pleased as punch with the service. More particularly a huge thank you to the supplier for their help

Unit is fine when you get it working
Unit is fine when you get it working. Read various reviews on here with tips and eventually got it working.Key is to unregister the unit then re-register with your base unit. I couldn't remember the latter until I read about pressing the speaker button for 5 secs. Did that and then powered up the repeater and it registered with a few seconds. Now have full DECT coverage at the far end of the house which without this repeater had zero coverage.Instructions are dire, but perseverance and a lot of reading around worked for me.

Wrong model shipped
As per other reviews, I received the KX-TGA405EX instead of the KX-A405 model listed. It had already been opened and registered.I deregistered it and ran the setup process again and found that it couldn't even pick up the base signal when sitting just two feet away from it.Refunded for a standard (and cheaper) DECT repeater.

DECT repeater
As everyone seems to be saying, great once you get it set up but the instructions are not good. Thanks to all that have posted I was able to get it to work but would've been tearing my hair out!

the DECT repeater does as good a job of extending the signal as i could ...
Due to the thick stone walls in our house, the DECT repeater does as good a job of extending the signal as i could expect. Coverage does not include the whole house but a big improvement on previous. It arrived at the same time as the Panasonic KX TGJ324EB Quad. My early attempts to register the DECT repeater with the new phone failed. I then waited until the phones were fully charged and the DECT registered at the first attempt. Setting up is actually very easy - just follow the simple instructions
