An excellent read . A period of history which I lived through as the son of a Serviceman. BAOR, Cyprus, Malta, Singapore, Hong Kong, all very familiar. My Father also served in Aden and NI.Thank you General Dannatt for putting all of these campaigns into historical context and Well Done to the excellent British Army.

A solid read
This book gives an excellent overview of post-war British history through the lens of the army. I found it very strong on the wars up to the end of the Cold War, but it became quite fragmented the closer to the present day. That is curious, as this is the era when the author would have had firsthand experience of the material he is covering. Perhaps a case of being too close to have a clear perspective? The epilogue was the weakest section; a collection of seemingly random assorted comments that didn’t fit elsewhere in the book. But nonetheless a highly enjoyable read and one that is accessible to the non-military reader.

easy to read and excellent content
Well written, easy to read and excellent content: written by an educated military man whose narrative is for the Everyman: The facts, the whole facts and nothing but the facts.

The book is fine but I am very frustrated by the buying process
The book is fine but I am very frustrated by the buying process. I required the book as a present but having clicked to buy it, I discovered I had ordered the Kindle version rather than the hardback. I have not downloaded it as I do not require it for myself and there is no way that I can see to seek a reclaim for the cost of the Kindle version. Brigadier David Canterbury.

From my point of view it arrived speedily and in pristine condition.
I bought it as a present for my grandson who is about to start training at Sandhurst military academy. He is an avid reader of anything related to the army past and present.
