Must buy at that price!
I was looking for a copy for my 10yr old Son. We have a rule in our house that everyone should have their own unique copy, none should be the same. I was eyeing this one when it came up at £17.99! That’s a rough average for a hardcover in general, so no-brainer then. He loves the colour plate illustrations, but the maps are his favourite part. The fact that they are not glued in is brilliant, and the writing on Thorins map printed backwards on the reverse so it shows through when held up to the light is inspired. Great copy.

Great gift for my nephew
Amazing artwork and a must read book for anybody. I bought this for my nephew for their birthday and immediately i almost could not part with it, jealousy struck me as the wife made me drop it by the front door like that scene in Lord of the rings with Bilbo & Gandalf. In all seriousness, although my nephew is 1 he will grow up and have a wonderful experience reading this later in life

A substantial book at a fair price.
I was torn between buying this book and the one advertised by the Folio Society. Both books are in hardback, which to me is important.I am glad I chose this book, as it is illustrated by J.R. Tolkien, although I dare say that the other one would have been just as good.So a good book that arrived on time.

Beautifully Presented
I stopped buying hardback and paperback books a long time ago, preferring to use my Kindle instead (I'm on my third Kindle and have more that 800 books in my Library). But I do have a lovely 3 volume illustrteted edition of 'Lord of the Rings' and on a whim, purchased this edition of 'The Hobbit'. It is, as most other reviewers have said, a stunningly presented book. Alas, Kindles simply do not have the resolution or the ability to render colour in order to reproduce maps and images requiring a high level of detail.

Great but Missing a Map
I couldn’t wait to get this edition of the book, considering I have the same version for Lord of the Rings. I was very excited to see the maps as well but I only had one arrive with my book. I checked on YouTube at other people who had got the book and there are supposed to be two maps, so I’m a little disappointed that I don’t have one of the maps, but the book is stunning.

Excellentcaddition to thecset
My duaghters christmas present now nrings her copies of The Hobbit to 7! She collects books and asked for this to complete the tolkien illustrated versions on top of the facsimile, mass paperbacks and others.Open opening she had to very carefully leaf through the pages looking for the illustrations and simply loves them. Tolkien may not be the greatest illustrator, in fact he can't draw people for toffee, but they help to show his own vision of his creation in a way no other edition can.A lovely addition to her collection and one that any Tolkien fan should own. A great edition.
