Perfect started Tenkara rod
This is a great value Tenkara rod it has a very nice feel to it and the price is excellent. I mostly western fly fish, but I use this occasionally and also have my son use it which is a great way for him to get into fly fishing. It packs down super small. Amazingly small. Great for backpacking or travel.

Great Tenkara rod!
Amazing rod to get into Tenkara or even if you have experience with Tenkara. Great action, lightweight, and at a good price. Rod has been great and has caught me a lot of fish!

Fun little rod for small fish and patient anglers.
This is my first tenkara rod. I bought it because I enjoy fly fishing small streams and given its history I thought it would be perfect for it. I can say that it is. It is very fragile feeling but after watching a few short youtube tutorials on handling and prep I was right on my way. The construction is very simple and the material on this one might be a little cheap but it folds up to about 14 inches if that which is perfectly portable. The line is ok, it tends to twist very easily leading to casts getting quirky if you aren't watching for it, and the line sinks which is fine, but if you want floating line you'll need to buy the floatant. The flies it comes with are nice enough, sinking nymphs and I caught several small fish on one ranging from minnow to smallmouth bass. You will also need to buy or tie your own leader, it does not come with one. Other than that for 60 bucks its a nice enough set up to help you decide if you like the restrictions of tenkara or not. 2 thumbs up.4 bags of popcorn and a coke.

Definitely got to get use to these type rods
Being a lifelong fisherman and hearing about these Tenkara rods I jumped at the chance to try one out. First off when it arrived and I seen this tiny package I was like what?? As the old saying goes don’t judge a book by its cover, there’s a lot of rod there. Those like me use to western style fishing gear will find the concept of using it….well different to say the least. I always felt like I had no control over the line, you don’t realize how much you depend on the reel for other than bring in a fish. Now that’s not to say anything bad, just that there is, for me anyways, a definite learning curve, more physiological than anything I would say. As for the rod, it is very nicely made, amazing how strong it feels when you look at the slender build and 10 foot length. Does have a good balance and casting is no problem. Line simply attaches to the fixed piece at tip location, called a Lillian, wonder how that got to be its name…lol…just pondering. It definitely has its place as in small mountain streams with no room for western style casting with a flyrod. I’ll have to come back with a more performance oriented review once I get some time in and a feel for it. As I said I see a place and it’s benefits, just got to get past the No reel thing.

Fun rod
After seeing videos on YouTube about tenkara fishing I got this rod. The rod was light and comes with everything you need to start fishing. I went to the lake for trout but had no luck, but I did catch a bluegill and bass. It was really fun fighting the fish.
