Stopped working after 2 months
Worked great at first but suddenly stopped working after 2 months. It wouldn't pair with any device. Took a charge, blinkrd all the correct lights but wouldn't pair. I tried Square help and none of the fixes worked. Used a search engine to finally find a fix. If this happens to you, press and hold the power button until all lights go off, about 20 seconds. Wait a minute and turn it back on. Mine was able to pair with my phone again, it did an update and started working again.Overall it works great most of the time, but failing mid market like that is scary.

Easy to Set Up and Use
I ordered this Square reader to use when I sell items at craft fairs. I am NOT tech savvy, so if I can set it up and use it, anyone can! The instructions were clear and easy to follow. It even comes with a link to a video to help with set up. The size is great and doesn't take up too much space in my storage container. The design is sleek and new. It's attractive! I highly recommend this product.

2nd Gen will not work with any older iPad or SquareUp stand
This 2nd Gen reader is incompatible with any older Square stand and any iPad that can't support IOS 15 or higher. This information is not made clear by square or on Amazon, but is available if you search the Square website for a while. Square no longer sells the 1st Gen reader, so the 2nd gen reader is useless for the millions of people with older square equipment. Nice to see that Apple and Square are supporting the filling up of our landfills by making otherwise good equipment obsolete. It's OK, just spend a few thousand $$ on new iPads, square stands, etc, but don't worry, due to their churn and burn marketing, all your new stuff will also be made obsolete as soon as possible.Note that the 'slanted cube' shaped dock (looks like the 1st Gen dock) that is sold to work with this 2nd gen reader uses the newer type C USB just like the reader. Old 1st gen readers won't work in 2nd Gen docks, and new 2nd Gen readers won't work in 1st Gen docks. With the chip/tap reader in this style of dock, and the dock connected via USB to the stand, it will NOT connect via USB, even with the latest iPad/stand/app. The cable is apparently made for charging only, so BlueTooth is your only option.I tried connecting the 2nd gen reader to my newer (IOS 17) iPad and squarestand using a BlueTooth connection, but I only got error messages. The newer style of 'round' dock uses the cable directly connected to the reader. In that case your IOS 15 or later iPad/stand/app will connect automatically to the reader using the direct cable connection--much better than using BT in my opinion.
