WARNING- opened on it’s own
The media could not be loaded. Update - I’ve had the safe for around 1/2 a year and my wife and I were watching TV. All the sudden the safe opened on its own. No one was near it. It just opened and the latch motor kept cycling on its own over and over, and the safe wouldn’t latch back shut. I had to unplug and remove the batteries to get it to stop. You can listen to the video and hear the latch continuously cycling on its own.Original review-I was expecting a safe that would charge my IPhone 14, got a fire hazard instead.First I have to say the safe and security is good on the safe; which is the primary reason I got it. But it has some serious flaws which buyers should be aware of. Sadly when I purchased I was traveling and passed up the Amazon return day before I realized it was a fire hazard.1- fire risk. Unlike most MagSafe chargers, if you leave anything metal on top of the charger glasses, pistol…) it will heat up. Big concern when you wear glasses and since the MagSafe charger won’t charge my phone I have to put my glasses on top to make room on shelf for my phone and charger.2- won’t charge phone. The MagSafe charger’s ring doesn’t stick out high enough to make contact with my IPhone 14 due to the camera rings on the back of the phone protruding out. So when I lay my phone on it, it’s not close enough to attach magnetically and get a charge. I can move it around a little where it will get a charge but if I accidentally bump it in any way, it’ll loose contact and stop charging. Most modern phones have the protruding rings now so I’m sure there will be a lot of complaints.3 - clock is ran off batteries only and pretty gimmicky since it the technology is simple and easy where it would be able to work off AC power with a battery backup.4- Clock’s time is a little complicated to program. Much easier methods out here VS how they set it up.5- Clock batteries are under face off clock, so if you hard mount the safe as I did you have to remove the drawer completely to change the batteries. It’s so stupid because the batteries could top load in the same location.6- the safe’s backup batteries are in a terrible location. They are behind the safe, so if you hard mount your safe with no room behind it, as most people do hard mounting safes like this, yiu can’t access the batteries without unmounting it.7- the key slot is on the back of the safe. Again, if you hard mount it on a shelf or with its back against something you can’t key access it.8- biggest annoyance, the decal on top of the safe had some kind of insanely hard to remove glue on it. Comes with this big ugly sticker on top which there is no way you’re going to leave it on. When I pealed off the sticker all the glue stayed on the safe. I tried rubbing it off without success. Ended up getting some Goo Gone and a hard plastic scraper to get it off. Took about 30 minutes of reapplying and scraping to get it off.I’m stuck with this for a while until I can afford a better safe. Very upsetting to purchase something you have to worry about accidentally placing something on it and risking a fire. They need to recall these for that reason alone. After posting it I got a message from the seller that they would refund me 100% if i responded “refund”. So I responded with “Refund” and nothing else. After doing so several weeks went by and I got a message back from the seller telling me I should read the directions on the warranty. They never refunded, even though they said they would.

Great safe, easy to set up
Bought this safe for my bedside table and it is a really solid choice for valuables and anything else that you might want to keep close at night. Took no time to set up the safe and program a new code and multiple fingerprints that can be used to open the safe. I like that the safe can be powered via an included power cord or batteries and the features of the safe are very similar to the Vaultek Smart Station at less than half the price. Only thing I don’t like or did not realize is that there is a difference between version 1.0 and 2.0 in terms of the clock and status being able to remain lit 24/7 if you want that info and look. If that is important to you, i recommend upgrading to version 2.0.

Does the job but not perfect.
UPDATED!The folks at GRIMTRON have contacted me regarding my review making it clear that they do care about their customers’ experience with their products. It’s highly unusual these days when a product manufacturer is truly concerned about quality of their product and are willing to take care of their customers - as a result, I have upgraded my initial rating to 4 stars. (The original review is below.)Ok, let's start with the basics - this safe will definitely protect you prised possession from getting into the wrong (small) hands. It may not be perfect , but it definitely works as intended.I will state the obvious and say that the safe itself should also be secured to something that is not moveable, and you have two options here - it can be hard-mounted to a suitable piece of furniture with provided screws, or it can be tethered to something really heavy and immovable (e.g. a bed frame) with the provided security cable. Now, let cover the details:1. The case construction is sturdy enough to protect your items from getting into the wrong hands but it's obviously not strong enough to stop a highly motivated intruder from prying it open. Construction quality is acceptable for the purpose it serves, but leaves few things to be desired, at least with the unit I've got:- The box/base isn’t perfectly square to firmly stand on flat surface - you'd need to play with rubber pads placement to stop it from wobbling (if it's not bolted down).- in the unit I’ve got, the internal drawer wasn’t properly aligned with the external case / lock - once I opened the safe, I had to slam the drawer back into the case to get it latched. The easy fix for it was a makeshift spacer pad (made out of aluminum foil) placed under the lock loop in the back of the drawer - it was enough of an adjustment to allow the drawer to latch in place without applying too much effort.2. The supplied power adapter is only rated for 5V / 1A (a max power of 5 watts), which means that it would be fine to keep the safe running, but definitely not enough for fast-charging a power hungry modern smartphone. The wireless charging pad installed on this safe does work, but then again - it's low power and is NOT mag-safe, meaning that it is not compatible with newer smartphones produced after 2022 with mag-safe (i.e., magnetically attached) wireless charger. You can still use the safe as a trickle charger with USB cable, just don't expect fast charging capabilities out of it.3. The unit requires two sets of 4 AAA batteries to operate - one to run the clock and internal light installed in the drawer, another one to power the lock / code pad / fingerprint reader, or serve as a backup source if you use the provided power adapter (and you should). You absolutely need a power adapter to run the safe if you plan to use it as a charger, which raised a number of questions in my mind:- why not put a rechargeable battery in there for power backup in case of outage (instead of alkaline AAA batteries?- why not put a rechargeable battery in the drawer, and keep it charged while the safe is closed?- why position power / USB outlets on top of the unit with cables sticking up, when there is so much unused surface in the back? (I’m hoping GRIMTRON engineers are reading product reviews.)4. The fingerprint reader does work most of the time, albeit slower than in my other safe from a different manufacturer. It may be finicky if you only register each of your fingerprints once, but there is an easy cure for it - since the safe is capable of storing up to 20 different fingerprints - registering each fingerprint many times (4 times each worked for me), and using different parts of your finger (tip, top/center, center, bottom/center) as if it was a unique fingerprint greatly improves your chances that when you touch the fingerprint reader pad in a hurry [and / or in awkward position], it would still find a match and unlock the safe. (Once I registered each fingerprint 4 times, I rarely had an issue and it works rather reliably.)With all the "imperfections" this safe has - it serves the purpose and there aren't many similar (sliding drawer) safe options available that would be functional, reasonably priced, and decent looking. It does offer sufficient level of security protecting the "payload" from getting into the wrong hands, and it gives you reasonably fast access to the stored item when you need it. This metal box is definitely good looking, with the stylish black screen LCD clock panel. (Did I mention it also displays room temperature and humidity levels? Nice!)
