SYNOPSIS: Director Noboru Iguchi (The Machine Girl, RoboGeisha) is back with his entry in to the ongoing Tomie horror film series based on a popular manga by Junji Ito. Tomie is breathtakingly beautiful and popular among the male students, including Toshio, whom Tsukiko is secretly in love with. One day an awful accident kills Tomie right in front of her younger sister. Since then Tsukiko suffers from a nightmare night after night. A year later Tsukiko and her parents are surrounding a birthday cake to celebrate dead Tomie s 18th birthday. Suddenly they hear an eerie knock at the door. Unbelievably, it is Tomie. She s back. The father and mother blindly welcome Tomie in tears, but Tsukiko feels instinctive fear. Tomie gradually reveals her true face, but only when she is with Tsukiko. Now Tsukiko s nightmare becomes reality, and the terrifying days begin... SPECIAL FEATURES:Interview with Director Noboru IguchiTrailer

Tomie, Tomie, Tomie!
Directed by Noboru Iguchi of "Machine Girl" fame, this "Tomie" of the franchise is possibly the most unique yet -- it's certainly the most Craziest! "Unlimited" and "Forbidden Fruit" are my faves, though "Rebirth" (directed by Takashi Shimizu of "Ju-on/The Grudge" fame) is recommended as I think it's the third best in the series. What's particularly welcome with this installment is the tightened-up pacing which adds an extra edge to the proceedings, as do the multiplying Tomies. Crazy! Ah, so you can't get enough of Tomie, eh? MUAH HA HAIf you're into insane/weird films (especially if you dig so-called J-Horror), then give this twisted sucker a go. "Unlimited" strikes a successful balance of Creepy and Hilarious like "Rebirth", except that it forgoes Takashi Shimizu's trademark slow building surreally atmospheric style for a increasingly gonzo freneticism.I forgot to mention how much better the picture and sound quality is on the "Unlimited" DVD compared to all the other ones in the series. I have yet to purchase "Tomie vs. Tomie" and so I of course cannot comment in any way on that one.

Tomie - Still Don't Understand It
I bought Tomie: Unlimited without seeing any other Tomie movies, and I also have not read the manga either. It was overall a disappointment, although at some part it was very well done. The biggest let down of the movie was because it seemed as though they did not know where they were going to take it, and the vast majority of the film is made up of ridiculous scenes. The atmosphere of the movie is very well done though, and it deserves credit for making the scenes very lonely and solitude which reflects Tsukiko's life. The actors did very well too, especially in making everything eerie and Tomie was the best at doing that.By the end of the film I had no idea what was going on. I hope someone one day explains the plot of the movie to me, because I honestly have no idea.I have rated it 3 stars as many of the scenes were laughable and I do not understand what the whole movie was about; however, it did make for some good watching, very good acting, and was a bit creepy. If, however, you are wanting a very frightening horror..I definitely would not recommend this.

The latest installment.
This is the latest installment in the long running Tomie series and a fine addition to the story of Tomie. Not heavy on extras but comes with a revealing interview with the director.
