O'FOOD SPICY SSAMJANG is a 127g (4.5 oz) Korean seasoned soybean paste sauce that combines fermented soybean and red pepper for an authentic flavor. Ideal for rice, noodles, fresh vegetables, and meats, it comes in a convenient squeeze pouch and offers both mild and spicy options without added high fructose corn syrup or MSG.

Delicious; stores easily
I received this small bag of SSAMSANG paste the same week that my Korean friend gave me another brand to try for the first time. Both are lovely and have a strong soy flavor that I assume is the ssamsang itself. The O'FOOD mild ssamsang paste is definitely mild, but does wonders to flavor rice, lettuce wraps, meat, and even more complex foods like spring rolls. This is a small resealable pouch that stores easily before use and will last for 1-2 4-person meals if everyone at the table likes it a little. I think it's a great sample size and would be terrific as a gift, but I'll be looking for a larger container next time!

Great ssamjang
This pouch of ssamjang delivers an authentic ssamjang taste in an easy to use package. Though I'm not super thrilled with the trend towards putting everything in pouches these days as it's usually not as convenient as more traditional packaging options like bottles, and there's inevitably more product that can't be easily gotten out of the pouch, this wasn't too bad, and I appreciated the screw cap which makes it easy to store. Anyway, the sauce is great, flavor is right, very savory, and it's not too salty nor overly hot. It works well in everything.

Quite nice
I love ssamjang, both as a condiment in Korean barbecue and as an ingredient. While it's not traditional in japchae, I like to use a bit of it to spice things up and add body in a way that gochujang can't on its own. This isn't the best ssamjang I've had, but it's pretty good! While it's not particularly hot, the flavor of the peppers is a little overbearing, drowning out the flavor of the soy. I like ssamjang to have a good balance of spicy, nutty, funky, and salty, and this isn't 100% there. Still, it's above average, and a great addition to any Korean dish you think might suit it.

A little heat, a little more kick
This ssamjang sauce is quite thick when squeezed out of the packet. It’s thicker than a ketchup or bbq sauce, and has the texture and consistency of a paste. For that reason, I would not heat it up without great care as it may lose all of its moisture. I will add to veggies and meats AFTER they’ve cooked. The flavor is great! There is a sweetness, plus heat, plus some zing/kick with the spices. I do like that the squeeze packet is to be refrigerated after opening, yet the expiration of my packet is yet 16 months out. There are only 9 tablespoons in this packet, so I’ll need to use sparingly. Delicious!!

Absolutely delicious
This is so yummy and gives such a great flavor to everything I add it to. If the flavor is a bit strong for you, then you can also add a little to something neutral like mayo, etc to add a little flavor without overpowering your dish.

Tasty with samgyapsal
I used this as a dip for my grilled pork belly and it tastes great! Not really spicy though but I usually wrap with garlic and jalapenos anyways. The small packet it a lot easier to dish out instead of needing to scoop out from a large container.

not too spicy
I love Korean food, but often it is so spicy its hard to eat. I was pleasantly surprised that this sauce had all the delicious Korean flavors I love, but it wasn’t so spicy that I couldn’t eat it. It does have a kick to it, but it is just the right amount of spice. I cooked tofu with this sauce and used it in some stir fried veggies. It is sweet and savory and more complex than just gochujang. It makes an excellent sauce for cooking, but I saved some of the packet to use as a dipping sauce too.

Good flavor and mild heat
This review is for the spicy ssamjang in a pouch. This has a nice spice level to it, not too hot but not just plain and boring mild either. It was excellent on rice with meat, but you can also use it for wrapping meat in lettuce and adding the ssamjang, or dipping vegetables. The pouch is convenient because I can squeeze out how much ssamjang I want without dirtying up a utensil. However, there’s not a lot of ssamjang in the pouch, and to get the flavor I want, I have to use a fair bit at a time, so I will go through it quickly.
