Chatier Bassoon Read
I was very happy when I received the reed as quicklyas I did. Good job!My daughter is just learning how to play the bassoon and was happy to get it. She said it worked well for her but it did crack after a couple of weeks. I thinkit was because she was soaking it too much and not drying it correctly.I can't complain too much since I don't know too muchabout this kind of thing.

A Grand Surprise!
I have a modern bassoon, a baroque bassoon at A415, three 17th C 'bassoon/dulcians at various pitches, an alto and a tenor dulcian at A466, and half a dozen shawms at various pitches. Needless to say, I have to make a lot of reeds, a task I've mastered without ever learning to love it. All really serious double-reed players need to make reeds. Period, 'nuff said. But a very good friend recently 'persuaded' me to give his 14-year-old son lessons on a modern copy baroque bassoon at A440. The kid is hard on reeds, a good sign that he actually practices almost enough, but I AM NOT in the trade of making reeds for others. I ordered some standard medium reeds for modern bassoon from four different makers, expecting to use them to teach the kid how to adjust and modify. What to my wondering ears, this Chartier reed plays quite well on the kid's baroque bassoon! What a time saver for me! The kid will still need to prove to me that he can shape and scrape his own, but meanwhile he can progress in playing. However, I tried the reed on my own modern bassoon and found it far too soft for prolonged playing. But it's well scraped and it might be useful to any student bassoonist.

Decent reed
This reed is better than Jones, and Fox Renard but in no way is it anywhere near a handmade reed. If you cant get the reeds by hand than this reed is for you.

A very good reed
This reed works really well. It isn't the best reed that i've ever used, but it is definitely far from the worst. It is comfortable to play, which is always good, and it works well. A great reed; I approve.

Band teacher, not a bassoon player but...
I order reeds from amazon all the time. I am trying to recruit some bassoon players so a bought these, one for me to demonstrate and one for a student to learn on. I can't speak to the fine points of bassoon reeds but these were cheap and played very easily. 5 star for beginners and value.

Does not produce a good sound.
Bought 4 of these for my daughter and her bassoon teacher tells me that they are not producing the correct tone. One of them is ok but the others are producing a tone that is to high. I am disappointed in these since bassoon reeds are so expensive and my daughter is just starting to learn how to care for the reeds. She has already gone through 2 different reeds. I do not mind paying for the reeds but I do expect them to produce a good sound.

Bassoon Reed
Bought this for a grandson. Seems like I'm always chasing around various music stores looking for their last bassoon reed at the last minute. I only ordered one to make sure he liked it...will order more though. I have to take the kid's word that it's a good product.

only reeds we buy
My daughter plays the bassoon and these are the only reeds we ever buy. They are her favorite and seem to do better then the others we've tried.
