Premium, quiet hairdryer, worth the extra cost
The CoolMouse hairdryer delivers on most of its claims. It is substantially quieter than our old hair dryer -- with both it and our old one running and held in front of me the same distance from my ears, I could not hear the CoolMouse at all. My wife and I could have a conversation with the CoolMouse running, impossible with the old hairdryer. The air comes out faster, in a narrower cone. The air temperature on the high setting is about the same as on the old hairdryer, as determined by how close I could comfortably hold my hand to the nozzle once it had warmed up. That's to be expected, since with 1500 watts input power like most hairdryers have, and relatively little of that consumed by the motor, you're going to get output heat equivalent to just under 1500 watts. The web page says the CoolMouse has overheating protection, which prevents the output air from exceeding 235 degrees. But through force of habit, I always try to prevent a different but important type of overheating protection: before turning off a hair dryer, I always run it on the cool setting for several seconds until the air cools down. With no airflow, the internal temperature can rise dramatically before the heating elements cool down. I'd expect this to be especially important with a unit like the CoolMouse that apparently has internal digital electronics, whose failure rate *doubles* for every 10 degrees C rise in temperature.CoolMouse claims to have a 150,000 RPM motor. I listened to the pure tone coming out of the back of the unit's head end, and tried to match it with a generated tone from the Tone Generator app on my phone. It seemed to be around 2000 Hz, so *something* is happening 2000 times per second, which works out to 120,000 RPM (60 times 2000). A motor going 150,000 RPM should have a primary sound component of 2500 RPM, which is very noticeably higher than the 2000 Hz I heard, as confirmed by playing a 2500 Hz tone on my phone. It occurred to me that their might be an FFT app for my cellphone to measure the exact frequency of sounds coming into the mic. Sure enough, there is, and I tried it with the CoolMouse running on high speed. I was wrong above, the primary tone frequency is actually just 1720 Hz (see my screenshot), which corresponds to 103,200 RPM. On low speed, I measured 1460 Hz, corresponding to 87,600 RPM. But I'm not going to complain, the CoolMouse's motor works very well and is quiet at both speeds.Unlike other hairdryers we've used, the CoolMouse motor did not detectably slow down when changing the heat seating from Cool to Medium to High. The magnetic attachment mechanism for the diffuser (not used with our short hair) and nozzle (used by my wife) is slick. The power cord is rugged, flexible and almost 6' long, a great improvement over the 3-4' easily twisted cords on our previous hairdryers. My wife and I both liked this hairdryer -- it's classy and cool (while being plenty hot when needed).

Quick and Even Drying, but is Kind of Expensive.
The Coolmouse Ionic Dryer is a quality hairdryer that managed to dry hair fast and evenly. The highest setting was quite hot, while the more preferable medium/warm one I found a lot more comfortable and still sufficiently dried wet hair fairly quickly. The lowest/cool selection I especially found useful, as heat tends to normally dry out my hair, and with a powerful motor, even the colder air managed to get the job done rapidly without the detrimental effects. Of course, my hair is fairly short, so individual mileage may vary. The light on the back of the unit allows one to distinguish visually the three settings and the colors are intuitive to their temperatures with cool green, warm yellow and hot red. The handle was ergonomic and the controls easy to reach. The optional narrow nozzle attachment is good for directing the air flow to sections of damp hair or styling, but I couldn't really figure out the purpose or use of the second attachment and with its oversized disc and nubbins, it seemed more like something for a scalp massager than a hairdryer.I feel for the price, it should have probably come with a bit more features, attachments and a wall holder, which is available, but as an additional cost option. This fact and the premium price point is what cost it the full stars, but it is still quite impressive and will make an excellent replacement for my aging, weak hairdryer with it's almost burnt-out coils and I can definitely recommend it.

Very lightweight, good value
I was very pleasantly surprised by this dryer! It is a lot lighter weight and quieter than my old "traditional" hair dryer. The noise it emits is pretty minimal; it's mostly from the sound of the air itself, not really the motor. I have medium length, medium thickness hair and was able to do a blowout in around 10 minutes on medium heat and low speed. (It has 3 heat settings, cool, warm and hot, and 2 speed settings.) My hair is straight, so I don't really use diffuser attachments, but the nozzle worked well. The attachments are magnetic and pop on and off extremely easily. The only thing I wish this dryer had is a cool shot button! It does have a cool setting, but without the button it just doesn't get quite as cold as the air on my old dryer did, which I think is invaluable to adding shine and smoothing flyaways. It is currently listed at just under $90, minus a 30% off coupon, so I think it is a great value, especially when you consider the price tag of the product it's trying to emulate (from a brand that starts with a D....) I have used the D brand dryer before and while I do prefer that one, this is a great option to still get a significant improvement on a traditional dryer without spending an arm and a leg.
