Kraven The Hunter - UHD/BD Combo + Digital + Steelbook

Under-rated film.
Not sure why this movie got so little love from people. Maybe my expectations from this franchise is very low. "Madam Web" and "Morbius" were tragically bad, but this is a fun action movie. Granted, you are not going to struggle to figure out the plot twists and not going to have amazing attachments to the characters, but they do avoid being typical superhero tropes. The action sequences are fun. The fight choreography is great. The dialog is good without being silly or contrived. It's not a cinematic masterpiece or an Oscar Threat, but it is one of the better superhero flicks to come out this year and I would rank it in the top two of the Venom-verse.The blu-ray version of the film features your typical behind-the-scenes features. Watching the care that went into the making of the film and the passion for the choreography gave me a bit more appreciation for the action sequences, but there is nothing amazing in the special features.

Good action comic movie!
Good movie! I thought it was going to be a bad movie, but it's not! I like the storyline and the characters. I didn't know Kraven had a brother and a father. But I know that he's Spider man enemy in the comics and cartoons, but all and all I like the stand alone movie about him! Hopefully they do a sequel!

A Bizarre End to Sony's Spider-Man Universe
J.C. Chandor’s 2024 film “Kraven the Hunter” is the sixth entry in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe. The film follows Sergei Kravinoff (Aaron Taylor-Johnson), a hunter who gains powers during a near-death lion attack in his youth. Calypso Ezili (Ariana DeBose) gives him a medicine that, combined with lion blood, grants him animal-like powers. Sergei leaves his father Nikolai (Russell Crowe) due to his desire not to become a casually-cruel ruthless criminal like his father. This leaves his half-brother Dmitri (Fred Hechinger) on his own to find his way in their father’s world. Sergei, going by the name Kraven, uses his abilities to hunt criminals around the world. Meanwhile, a gangster that Nikolai snubbed years prior, Aleksei Sytsevich (Alessandro Nivola), plans to seize Nikolai’s criminal empire leading to a conflict that draws in Sergei and his brother. The plot is rather overly-complicated, balancing too many threads with weak effects to render most of the animals. It also features multiple Spider-Man villains. Sergei and Dmitri make sense as they are brothers in the comics, with Dmitri’s chameleon-like abilities on display at multiple points before he actually gains any powers. Aleksei’s connection to the Russian mob in the comics similarly makes him an easy connection, while his Rhino powers closely resemble the traditional comics costume unlike Paul Giamatti’s mech-suit in “The Amazing Spider-Man 2.” The mech-suit was more impressive, but this version of the Rhino works well both for comic accuracy in appearance and for the animal themes in the film. Finally, the Foreigner (Christopher Abbott) was an unusual choice as a minor Spider-Man villain, though Chandor’s film entirely changes him to grant him powers. All of these characters pack a bloated story that may have worked better as a mob film. The Sony Spider-Man Universe often feels like a throwback to the superhero films of the early 2000s and “Kraven” mirrors “Morbius” in this throwback style with how it grants its main character his powers. For the moment, this is the final film in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, which will be best remembered for the fun of the “Venom” movies and the bizarre choices in the other three entries. This steelbook Blu-Ray/4K set is a nice way for Spider-Man fans to add this film to their collection. Bonus features include deleted and extended scenes, “Becoming Kraven,” “Beast Mode: The Stunts of the Hunt,” outtakes & bloopers, a look at the film’s direction, and a look at the cast.

No Sequels!
As an action film, it was so-so. Sadly, it was a box office bomb. Although there are many stories that would be material for a sequel, I discovered that the studio has opted not to create any sequels. So, Kraven is a one and done film.
