This review is for Rx Vitamins for PETS’ BIO-C, Vitamin C supplement for dogs.I decided to give my dog Vitamin C because her low protein illiness seemed to me to be a vitamin deficiency and Vitamin C and bioflavonoids are the only vitamins not in dog food or supplements. In February 2019 during a wellness visit I asked for routine blood work because my dog’s urine smelled so strong. Also she had soft stools. I don’t know why I didn’t ask for a urinalysis but I asked for a blood test.The Vet called me with the test results and there was nothing wrong with my dog’s kidneys or bladder. But shockingly, my dog was starving in plain sight. Malabsorption. Her tests showed low albumin, low protein. More testing and the low protein was worse. No treatment yet. I told the Vet that I wanted to rule-out the dreaded lymphangiectasia. More testing and PLE protein losing enteropathy was confirmed. But no treatment yet. I did “research” on the Internet. The only hopeful treatment was from a Wisconsin vet who recommended egg white protein. So I gave my dog hardboiled egg white. It passed thru undigested causing heartburn with belching and horrible bad breath. So then I fed my dog lightly poached egg whites.The protein levels went up 20%. But then my dog had the worse diarrhea she had ever had. And my dog had had a lot of diarrhea mostly soft stools, sometimes worse, ever since she was a puppy. Back then her Vet prescribed low dose compounded Metronidazole pills and even told me give her a pill instead of coming into the office. That is a standard treatment for diarrhea. The diarrhea always went away after 2-3 days. This vet also diagnosed my dog with stress diarrhea and gave my dog FortiFlora. We moved to a new town and the new Vet was not too keen on routine Rxs for diarrhea. I had to beg for medication for my dog. My requests were refused. My dog suffered soft stools and worse for months. For months I had to get up in the middle of the night and clean diarrhea off the carpet. By this time the diarrhea smelled atrocious, the worse odor ever. Meanwhile no treatment for low protein.So I decided to go to a Veterinarian Internal Medicine Specialist, a Vet IMS. But before I went to the 1st appointment, I started wondering if my Coton De Tulear was suffering from a vitamin deficiency. She had a few lesions that looked like bleeding under the skin. Could this be a form of scurvy? But mostly I decided upon Vit C because I never believed that dogs don’t need supplement for it. Apparently while dogs can make their own Vit C, they do not make bioflavonoids. So I ordered Rx Vitamins for PETS’ BIO-C. When I received it I added 1/4 of the standard dose to wet dog food. My dog turned up her nose. So I put it inside a treat. The scoop handle is too long for the bottle, I had to cut it off.Also I have a small white dog, very stressed, barking all the time. The organs in the body that enable animals to deal with stress are the adrenal glands. Most of the human body’s Vitamin C is in the adrenal glands. I got that bit of information from a blogger who writes about adrenals and the adrenal steroids. I jumped to the conclusion that’s it is the same for dogs’ bodies.In the Vet IMS office, my dog’s blood test could not detect any protein. The Vet IMS prescribed low dose Metronidazole, prednisone steroid and Ultamino prescription food. I continued with BIO- C. Within 24 hours my dog had NORMAL tootsie roll stools. Repeat: Within 24 hours my dog had normal tootsie roll stools. At the 2 week check my dog’s blood test results showed NORMAL albumin and NORMAL protein levels. We will confirm the great news in a month. The Vet IMS suspects IBD inflammatory bowel disease or IBS.Also I stopped using diarrhea medicines designed for dogs and cat sold in the pet store. My research revealed that they contain an ingredient that the FDA says is no longer fit for human consumption and can cause malabsorption in humans. Also I stopped giving my dog so much fiber so nothing competes with protein for absorption.So now I am planning a game plan with the Vet IMS, because dogs who suffered low protein can have future health consequences even after the protein level tests normal.

Easy to put on food and works for dog bad breath

I love this Vitamin C for dogs product. My vet suggested we get Vit C for our very old dog to help fight off infections and wow did it work great! He is now free of infection and doing great. We also give him Rematrix dog chews which are fabulous for joint mobility. The veterinarian had us start out giving 3 scoops (plastic scoop spoon in bottle), for a 48 lb dog, and see if the dog got diarrhea, then reduce to 2 1/2 scoops, if diarrhea remained, reduce to 2 scoops. 2 scoops is the perfect dose for our boy! No more ear infections! And no more antibiotics that made him vomit.

This was easy to use for our dogs. I loved the little spoon it came with. Our dogs ate it without any fuss.
