If you get Makita, you get quality
You can buy cheap and cuss every time you use a tool but if you get the good stuff, whenever you have a honey-do, the job goes so much easier. I already had a Makita power driver so I went with this as I knew the quality and I already had the battery charger I needed. I also bought a pair of the batteries so I can tackle the big jobs with no hesitation. The first job I did was to drill a couple of 1/2" holes into some bricks on the outside of my house to mount a hose mount. It was nearly too easy thanks to the hammer drill function available. Great tool to have.

Excellent ergonomics, plenty of power.
Good everyday drill - with three settings, it works well as a wood/metal drill, driver, and concrete drill. Capable of handling bits up to at least 5/8 and drilling into dense concrete, though if I had to do a lot of heavy duty drilling (as opposed to concrete block and using smaller bits) I'd go for a larger double-handled Makita.

Loose spindle/chuck.
The chuck appears to be loose (moves laterally over 1/16th inch. I will be contacting Makita and Amazon. I hope this is some one off problem as the drill is otherwise good.

I bought it, I used it, I replaced it
Its a decent drill, a little underpowered, but OKAY. The chuck sucks. It never seemed to click right, and the bits came loose after a while, but by the end, it could not even hold a bit with the hammer-drill mode (it would just vibrate loose). For the most part it could handle what I needed, but struggled with stirring paint, any type of concrete drilling (short of gypcrete), and >2" hole saws.Used it for a couple years, and bought a different one. It can handle smaller stuff, but it was weaker and never really felt right. I would recommend spending a little more and getting one of the newer Makita brushless drills.

Great Product
This is my first upgrade from my old Makita drill. It was a 12 volt, probably 10 years old. I built a lot of things with that old drill. This one has some significant improvements. It is very powerful. The light is nice. Rubber all over making it comfortable, and protecting it from falls. The chuck will hold 1/2" bits. It has settings for drilling, driving screws or a hammer drill. (Nice) The trigger is very responsive and the speed can easily be controlled. It also has the handy screw torque settings. The bracket makes it easy to hang off a tool belt.I like this.

Pretty big Makita fan
Pretty big Makita fan, these tools give me zero grief. Not a bad product at all, but after putting it through it's paces I realize this tool is compromises too much. It's light enough that mixing cement/grout/mortar at high speed is asking way too much, but just a bit too heavy for the wife to want to use it to hang paintings. Haven't had any issues screwing together lumber or performing car maintenance, though I get a fair amount of work out of my Makita impact wrench as well.I regret not buying two drills (one compact and one robust).

Makita is usually great, not sure what is going on with this ...

High quality with plenty of power.
High quality as I've come to expect from Makita. Just a great addition to the rest of my Makita tools and all use the same battery.
