Quirky Arnold Lobel at his best
Loved reading this to our children 30-odd years ago and glad that it is still available for our grandchildren. The four Mouse Soup stories, Bees and the Mud, Two Large Stones, The Crickets and The Thorn Bush, have a typical Arnold Lobel whackiness that appeals to children and adults alike. A classic.

Great children's book
A great family favourite for us! It's not too long for bedtime. I've bought this copy for my now grown-up daughter to use as she trains to become a teacher; it's a favourite from her childhood but still stands the test of time.

delicious!
beautifully witty stories, in simple. accessible language. Beautully witty illustrations, too. Great for reading aloud; and as an early reader: children want to know what happens next!

Classic tale from Arnold Lobel
Love Arnold Lobel, was reminded how much when Julia Donaldson chose one of his books for her cultural exchange on radio4

absolutely charming and very nicely written
It doesn't get much better than this in Early Readers, or charming, absorbing stories for small children. Little mouse is caught by weasel and will be made into soup - but he delays the process, Scheherazade-like, by telling four fine little stories, and all is neatly and cleverly brought together at the end so that mouse can make his escape. The language is well chosen, there are nice touches of humour and the illustrations are lovely. All the Lobel books are well-tried and good, and this is one of the best of them. Very warmly recommended.

Four Stars
Not quite as good as Mouse Tales, but a lovely book nonetheless.
