Pyle PDBC70 PDU. Good, solid, quality construction.
I got this PDU for my computer desk. The slim, 1U rack design and small footprint allowed for more room than the large, square PDU that I've had since the early 2000's. The quality and construction of the PDU is outstanding, there's no rattling, no loose screws or internals. This isn't some cheap Chinese garbage that you have to worry about starting a fire. The 9 on/off switches give off a warm orange glow and have a satisfying click when you switch them on and off. The rear outlets are as solid as the rest of the construction, there's no loose outlet, no wiggle, just a solid plug. The power in cord is a nice thick quality cord that plugs straight into the wall socket, it's not a 90° plug. The only thing that would make this unit better would be to have a removable power in cable. I highly recommend spending the money on one of these to protect your computer, audio, video or whatever equipment you have hooked up through this Pyle PDBC70.

Protection Guarenteed
Finally, an electronic device that actually does what it is designed to do. Cord is flexible and long enough to mount this in the case. Filters out the bad and jeeps the good. Replace old technology before something bad happens. This is what you need.

Great unit, easy to work with - except 19" racks
As with any type of unit like this, it does one thing, and that's what it's advertised to do. In this case, it's an outlet switcher. Typically with surge-protection, the only thing that's added is a little electronics part called a surge suppressor, which essentially a two-pin capacitor to store/filter little surges in voltage (voltage spikes) and to simply rupture, should the voltage spike be too much. This, in turn shorts out the outlet and blows the circuit breaker. Simple idea, but nothing that should add much cost.In this case, it really doesn't add much cost. Pyle makes a solid unit with 9 numbered switches, lit by Blue LEDs, controlling a single outlet on the rear for each. The power cord to the unit is thick, and solid. The unit is well built, except the faceplate. The faceplate should be thicker, and I'm not sure why, but the template used to cut the rack-ear holes in the front plate is still using super-ancient rack-screw spacing. Most modern 19" racks no longer use this spacing for the screw holes. You cannot mount this unit directly into a normal 19" rack without modifying the faceplate screw holes.Other than this, the unit is great for the price, and I suspect will last a very long time.

Great multi-device power controller.
I have only had this device a few days, but I have already put it into use and so far it is doing everything that I needed from it. I am happy that all of the receptacles are on the back. For my application that is what I need. And all of the switches are on the front and numbered. If you are like me, you have many devices connected to your computer that have little power transformers to power them. And so you need to find a place to plug them. Well my solution was to buy this device along with two 5-packs of the ClearMax three pronged 12" extension cords. If you use these short extension cords, then you don't have a problem trying to get the transformers to fit within the spacing of the receptacles on the device. If you plug in all of your little transformers and label the switches as to which is which transformer, then you can easily turn the other devices on an off from one location. I know that many people just leave these transformers plugged in all of the time. Not only are the transformers constantly using energy and driving up your electric bill, but it is also dangerous to leave the transforms plugged in unattended. If they get a short in their little power cord that plugs into your shaver, phone, radio, etc, then they can cause a fire. With this device, I can plug in my phone to its charger and flip a switch and it is charging. When I am done, I just unplug and switch it off. Having nine switches on this device, you can control a lot of devices. The quality appears to be good. I read somewhere that the rack mount tabs on the side are thin metal. I am not sure what device they are referring to because the rack mount tabs on mine are study metal. You cannot bend them with you hand. You might be able to bend them with a pair of pliers, but they seem as sturdy as any rack mount tabs I have seen. The switches appear to be good quality when you flip them and they light up. Because I have only had the device a short time, I cannot tell how long the lights will last. However, the lights are just a bonus. If the switch is up, it is on and if down it is off. If the switch continues to work great, I am not as concerned about the lights, although they are nice to have from a distance. The power cord is a substantial cord and appears to be of good quality and sufficient length for most applications. I am extremely happy with this device and it solves my multi-device electrical problems.

As Expected
19" Rack-mount Power supply with individual switches for each of 9 ports. It works as expected. I have a mini rack (20U) on a desk in my office and although I don't really need the individual switches, I think they are cool. I will definitely get a second one when I set up my radio rack, and might get some for the server racks in my garage.
