A new year, new pupils and a new set of challenges for the staff and children at Grange Hill as lack of funding affects them all in one way or another. Originally broadcast by the BBC in 1982 and 1983 Eureka Entertainment is pleased to present this 6-disc, slip cased boxed set featuring all 36 episodes from series 5 & 6 for the very first time on DVD. Grange Hill series 5 synopsis - It's a new term at Grange Hill & new pupils including Zammo McGuire, Roland Browning, Annette Firman & Fay Lucas start at the school; "Gripper" Stebson quickly finds himself a new victim. Jonah Jones & Zammo create havoc with stink bombs, much to the amusement of the boys. The offer of sex education lessons causes a mixture of mirth, embarrassment and consternation to both pupils and parents alike. An accusation of impropriety rocks the school and Stebson's bullying culminates in a tragic accident. These are just some of the issues dealt with by head teacher, Mrs McClusky, as the term unfolds at Grange Hill. Grange Hill Series 6 Synopsis - A school trip to St Albans takes a potentially dangerous turn when Annette Firman & Julie Marchant foolishly accept a lift from strangers. Romance blossoms for Claire Scott & "Stewpot" as they get caught necking in a cupboard. Despite recent events, "Gripper" Stebson's bullying escalates into racism that results in his suspension from the school. Mr McGuffey, often a quiet champion of satirical subversion, is suspended by Mrs McClusky leading the pupils to organise a rally for his return.

Iconic 80s television
The sheer joy of revisiting 1982 and the Grange Hill kids I grew up with! Zammo and his stink bombs, the rise and fall of Gripper and the gorgeous Hoppy Hopwood. Six discs worth of reliving my childhood. The wonderful thing about Grange Hill was it's mixture of comedy and quite powerful drama which touched on serious issues. This era is perhaps best known for the storyline around Gripper Stebson, who progresses from mugging small children for their dinner money to all out racial violence. Never afraid to take any contentious subject by the horns, Grange Hill tackles the issues of racism and bullying incredibly well. Gripper is no less than vile but the portrayal does hint at why he turned out so full of of pointless hatred. Aside from the wider social issues it took on, Grange Hill was always a mirror to the experiences of schoolchildren and the day to day worries they faced such as the pressures of study, unfair teachers and being mortified when someone found out you had a crush on them. Generations of kids found great comfort in watching these characters going through the same things that they were dealing with. Childrens tv at its best.

Incredibly unique series for children and adults. Funny, honest and real.
With the explosion in media i am surprised for reasons unknown the bbc are being so frugal with this massive classic. The child actors are very good. It is incredible most did not continue to act after there education. The writing is witty and believable. Please release the rest of the zammo years through to end of the 80s bbc.

Very good
I'm a grange hill fan I remember watching it when I was going to school myself. So I'm a little bias in this review. My only problem is why is it more expensive to buy this on amazon prime video, than it is when you buy off amazon?

Oh the memories!
Iv long awaited this series coming out. Iv so enjoyed watching them. It take me back to happy days, watching this while laid on the floor doing my homework. I love the characters and considering they were mostly kids, the cast acting was excellent. I wished we had seen something of Grippers home life, so we could understand why he was a bully. I will watch this again and share it with my nephews. I laughed out loud at some parts. Such quality for a childrens programme. Well written and acted throughout. I love it. I hope further series will be soon released.

Nostalgia fest
Unmissable nostalgia from children's tv of the 1980s. First seen as a teenager, this box set brings back realistic memories of bog standard comprehensive education. But there's nothing average about the drama that doesn't flinch in bringing to the screen the harsh realities of bullying and racism of the era. The series main attraction is mixing this drama with genuine comic relief.

At last!
Finally, many years after releasing the first 4 seasons on DVD, perhaps the best and most memorable Grange Hill episodes escape the vaults to be enjoyed again. It was a joy to see the first 4 seasons but Rollo and arch-villain Gripper hadn't appeared yet. Seasons 5 and 6 covers all of Grippers' tenure in the series, including his well deserved expulsion. For those who love 80s nostalgia this is perfect. I trust this sells well so the BBC release more seasons in due course. Zammo's darkest hour isn't cover in this set but fans of the series will want to see it again.
