Master Book on How Time and Accompanying Events Change Society
Wah Wah! As a Nuer, I can confirm that this book is well researched and wonderfully written. Sharon E Hutchinson demonstrated knowledge of the field of ethnography, her detailed observation just irradiate that. I am impressed with the passion in which she submerged and mingled with the locals to know them better.Indeed the book carries realities that befallen the Nuer people. Despite resilient of the Nuer people's culture, the cacophony of manmade and natural disasters are too heavy to withstand.I recommend this book for every contemporary Nuer man and woman to read it, to know who they are. I also recommend it for those distant friends and researchers who would like to know about us. I can only say Big Thank you Sharon may God bless you and your progenies!

a theoretically-sophisticated ethnography
As far as I know the first ethnography of the Nuer since Evans Pritchard. Hutchinson draws on some serious field work and makes good use of Marx and Simmel, while paying careful attention to gender as well as the violence visited upon the Nuer over the last century.

Time problems
I ordered this book on the 3rd of April. I did not receive the book until the 9th of May. I ordered the book on April third because I needed to read it for class. The assignment has since passed, and I didn't have the book!. I am very upset that the shipping took so long and I would not do business with this person again

Excellent update of a the classic Nuer study
For those who have read the Pritchard study, this is a great follow on, showing what has happened to the Nuer in recent years. When you hear about the troubles in this part of the world on the news, it has little effect, when related to individuals and a way of life as it is here it makes the subject far more thought provoking. I found this a pleasurable read. I note that it is on the Cambridge HSPS pre course reading list now as well.
