Focus 8.5 / Beyond The Horizon

Good for old and new audiences?
This will be a good purchase for the Focus fans of old and possibly a new audience if they where to hear it. There is definitely a jazzier feel to this than any of their other recordings alluded to. They have some guest musicians to help with great affect.I do like many old bands but seldom look back to them for new music, this has become an exception to this. The female vocalist comes a little too close to sounding like Shakatak for my liking, but the music carries this through to good effect. Could have done without a couple of the drum solo though, times have moved on, please!

I enjoyed listening to these Jam sessions
this a very jazzy record with all present Brazilian atmosphere. Thijs van Leer plays a lot of flute on this release. I enjoyed listening to these Jam sessions.

Focus
Focus playing slightly out of the usual remit as they are playing with a selection of brasilians. Quite, quite enjoyable, well worth a listen.

fusion
The album is a great fusion of rock/prog/jazz/classical/latin music.Excellent musicianship and Thijs and the boys trying out new things.

Disappointing.
As a traditional Focus fan it has been disappointing to see the decline of their musical compositions. They need to completely review their style and get back to the core guitar and synthesiser . This album is short and extremely disappointing - not even one memorable track.
