Not well built and will not work with snaps that have long shanks.
As delivered this snap fastener is pretty much worthless. It is also overpriced for the quality. The hole the 'hammer' bar slides through is bored too large and the bar tends to bind. Also the hole is not perfectly perpendicular to the cross bar. I wonder if that is deliberate. Lubing the tool doesn't stop the binding or squeaking. The range of motion is limited, so if your snaps have a long-ish shank you will not be able to slip them in to the recessed 'anvil'. Overall it is a bit flimsy. Needs lots more metal. Needs to be larger. To make this tool work I took it apart and cut off about 1/8" from the end of the 'hammer' shank. Then I hand-filed the end so it would mushroom rivet the snap. The result was unsatisfactory, but I do find my modified snap tool useful for pre-setting snap parts into place so I can later wack it using a standard hammer and snap anvil. Pre-setting the snap keeps it from falling out of the cloth while I use one hand on the hammer and the other on the anvil. Otherwise I need 3 hands. After futzing so much with this snap tool, I wish I had saved my money and purchased a Hoover Pres-N-Snap tool instead. That tool is rather expensive but looks like the tool I would design to fasten snaps with only one hand.DB

Doesn't work well
This is well built but the problem is that the part that holds the snap cap is not curved like the snap cap is so it doesn't always center the cap. Also, the part that is supposed to crimp the cap on is not shaped properly. It should be shaped to curl the edge to secure it but it just tries to widen it. After trying to use this several times, I gave up and went back to the old hammer and punch type tool that came with my snaps.

Poor design, clumsy to use.
Switching the die (lower) part seems easy enough, except one of the dies has a tail that's too long, and won't clear the punch. You have to remove the punch pin or grind down the down the die tail; I did the latter. Switching the punch pin is a nuisance, trying to get the tang hole to line up while holding the spring compressed. The punch pins need to have a slightly conical tip (they have a flat tip) so it will flare the center pin of the snap, instead of just smashing it in an unpredictable fashion.Don't recommend this tool.

Not for steel
I broke it after 5 minutes, not made for putting stainless steel snaps on a boat cover...but a heavy duty model instead. This is made for light fabrics and plastics snaps.

instructions
I was disappointed that there was no instructions inside on how to operate. I know you can see them on the website but would have liked a hard copy.

Ok works well
Ok for limited use. Not heavy duty

Easy to use
The tool is easy for anyone to use but the plastic buttons have to be put on with great accuracy in order to snap closed

Works Well
Not industrial grade but seems to work well which reflects with the price. Good for the novice but be gentile.
