Great customer service
Decent product, but fantastic customer support. Mine overheated and they sent parts to fix it but when that still didn't work they sent me a whole new unit as a replacement.

A few issues with temperature control but a great dehydrator for the price
The temperature control doesn't let you go up and down one degree at a time. It has pre-set increments ranging from 5 to 10 degrees. For example, I wanted to do a batch of jerky and had to pick from degrees of temperature split evenly on either side of the one listed in my book by about 5 degrees. I tested the temperature with a thermometer placed in an empty stack of the trays and ended up deciding on going a little less on the temperature for the process. But, I don't know if that will be the case from unit to unit so I would highly suggest testing the temperature on your particular unit prior to first use.You will also need to rearrange the trays a few times over the course of your drying project for even dehydration. And, never ever leave the unit fully unattended! (like when you go to work or while you are sleeping)Additional things to think about:The trays are very light weight and I am afraid they will crack if I actually wash them in the dishwasher despite the fact the company says you can do so.Make sure you wash the trays and stack them in such a way that they can air out for a couple of days prior to first use or your first batch of dried items will taste like plastic. (Wipe the base unit out with a slightly damp kitchen towel as well.)Also, be aware that finding exact match silicone liners for this puppy is probably not going to happen. It is best to buy ones designed for the purpose that are oversized and cut them down (don't buy hobby store plastic that isn't BPA free!). Some people use waxed paper for this purpose which will save you money but can alter the flavor of the food so I wouldn't do it personally. Make sure you use the liners for anything at all juicy so things don't drip down into the base and fry your unit. (Home made "sun dried tomatoes" are a good example of this.)

It’s a great gift.
I actually bought this for a couple. They always make jerky in a small outdoor smokehouse through the year, which was twice size of this product. And we live in a place where the winter is usually four months or longer, so cold. So I bought this for them a couple months ago, and they love it. So far they have made a bunch of deer jerky, and dried fruits out of it in the house, no need to go outside unless they want some smoked food. The pictures are deer jerky and banana chips. They haven’t tried dried vegetables, no a big fan about it. Also, they said they did Google to find the right recipes for dried fruits, the book came with the machine doesn’t have enough details for them. All in all, they love it, lol.

Horrible product
First of all it says read all directions, which are horribly lacking. There is nothing about the control panel. Other than to say there are settings.I dry peppers normally on my kitchen counter on paper towels, takes 3 to four days. I live in the desert.I placed the peppers in the dehydrator and turned it on. Directions said it should take 4 to 10 hrs. At 10 hrs they were warm, but no sign of dehydration. So I turned the heat way up to 135 and later 145. Setting them 3 different times for 8 hrs, 25 hrs later about 10% to 15% were not dry. This is not my first experience with a dehydrator. I had one for over thirty years that I used for herbs, it only had an on and off setting, but worked well.I was so excited to get this one and now so so disappointed.

food dehydrator temp not high enough for meats
Originally I bought this to dehydrate vegetables and meats. I picked it for 2 reasons.1) has manual controls should work in the event of a surge that can wipe out a lot of electronics.2) it has a 400 watt heater for a small size compared to other models.I did a trial run with a temperature probe. Max temp was 148 degrees. Great for vegetables but not hot enough for meats. Meats should be 168 or higher. If you are only doing vegetables or fruits then this unit would be fine.I will be up grading another unit shortly
