Thin and light, but solid
When I bought my house some years ago, a manufactured home, I never noticed that there was no outside dryer vent. The dryer vented into the floor and I never thought about it. I never bothered to make sure it then routed outside. Why would I? Too many other repairs to deal with in this old house. I recently purchased a new washer and dryer and when I installed them is when I realized the dryer vented into the floor, but that was as far as it went. No wonder I get rabbits and other critters living under my house in the winter. It's warm under there.Time to do it right so I purchased this vent. There were lots of other styles available, but they all seemed to have plastic parts that over time would become brittle and crumble. This one, being all metal, will last the rest of my life. I cut a 4 ½ inch hole in the house skirting, put a bead of caulk around the back of the vent and stuck it in the hole. I came up with four little screws, (no screws come for the four holes in the edges of the vent), screwed them in then crawled under the house. This is an old house so it sits on dirt. (Now a days, they drop them on caliche.) Crawling through 3 inch deep dirt as fine as dust and old insulation (a shower smells like a good idea) I wormed my way through the maze of supports and metal straps a manufactured home always has and made it to the vent. I found the semi rigid vent tube hanging from the floor, worked it onto the vent and clamped it. It was a little difficult getting the 4 inch tube onto the 4 inch vent while working on my belly in near darkness brushing away the occasional brown recluse. It was all worth it though. Knowing that my new dryer is properly vented and that this metal vent is never going to rot away.No installation instructions come with the vent, but it’s pretty obvious what you need to do. Most people will just be replacing an existing vent and not cutting a new hole for a new installation like me. The vent is thin and light, but solid although if you're rough with it then the tube will bend out of shape. It does have that gravity flap on it so if you don’t have it installed level or tilted back slightly then the flap can hang open negating the feature of keeping critters out.I ran a test and the vent worked perfectly. I’ll never have to buy another one, but if I did then this would be my choice.

Sturdy and well made
It seems every hardware store sells the same dryer vent. A plastic flapper plate for outside, and a flimsy metal tube press fit in the back. That tube is also easy to accidentally pull out. This unit for about the same money is made completely of steel, thick gauge, welded together. Much better to work with the flapper operates as expected. Easy to install, stick the tube through the wall and sink 4 screws.

still useful
it looks sturdy but must be easy to bend up. came in box with the back out of round and dented front cap. i was able to straighten it out and hopefully it will work. box was in good condition so it must have come off the shelf bent. i should have taken pictures before straightening it. still looks like it's better than the plastic one. small gap on the flapper so it doesn't sit flush. hope there aren't any little smart mice that will open it and jump in.

Very good product. Can be made awesome with tiny magnets.
I'm not sure about the description. To clarify, this is a vent tube, shroud and a flap at the shrouded end that keeps critters and drafts out. There is nothing else.It seems to be made well and will probably last a very long time. The flap works with gravity and is very light. Outside wind or positive air pressure inside the house will cause it to open.On my application, the existing opening was not level, causing the flap to stay slightly open and flap in the breeze. Between that and the light nature of the flap, I decided to silicone two very small but powerful magnets to the outside/back of the flap. Now the flap closes flush and very tightly. The dryer blows with a strength that is no match for the magnets (this modidication is not recommended for range hood applications).Very happy with this item.

Nice vent...less expensive than the "big box" stores, and much better quality!
I am adding a deck to my house, and needed to move the vent for the dryer. The old one was in rough shape...one of those typical plastic ones that end up degrading in the sunlight and cracking. I couldn't find one made of sheet metal locally, so I was happy to find this one on Amazon. Being less expensive than the plastic ones as the home centers was a big plus as well! I did run this through a pressure treated board, so I made a sleeve out of some vinyl flashing I had to protect the metal from the acid in the pressure treated lumber. Very happy customer!

Looks and works great
Easily installed, looks great, and works well. It also does not seem to retain lint like the old plastic one keeping the dryer exhaust cleaner and less fire risk.

Very good quality
So much better than plastic type. The damper/backflow preventer works perfectly.

It has a few mouses than described
I did not use this as an exhaust vent, instead we removed the flapper and mounted it near my AC unit and used it to pass the refrigeration and drain lines. We just cut the tube down to 2 or so inches , mounted it to a new 4 1/4” hole and ran my lines, used touch foam insulation to seal it on the outside. Work like a charm
