I had high hopes for this. I gave this to my 6 year granddaughter with high hopes. She loves reveal toys and is a fan of “Merpeople.” The initial gift opening went great…lots of squeals and giggles. But, when we opened it and opened the paper she saw a list of about 7 dolls that it could be. She looked at them and quickly picked the one that was her favorite. I reminded her that it could be any one of them and she was fine with that with one exception…she did NOT want the boy doll. I’m thinking to myself that the odds were good so I didn’t worry.She’s 6 so it took her a minute to open it and I have to admit I was nervous. And the longer she took the more nervous I became.I’m guessing you have already guessed what happened next, but I will explain it anyway. She ripped open the paper and we watched her face change to utter disappointment. All the adults in the room gasped in horror.Because she was raised right she never said a word of complaint. She just stared at it and had this look…I can’t describe it but I’m sure many of you have experienced the look of a six year old trying hard not to cry or throw a tantrum. Christmas was ruined!So, that all really happened and I’m happy to report later in the day we were able to talk her into going through the reveal process and she told me later that she liked it now.Just so you know, the quality of the doll was fantastic and it arrived in a very timely manner. I recommend this doll unless you have a six year old that still thinks “boys are yucky” in which case I recommend you don’t take a chance!

My daughter really loved this. She enjoys the surprise element and has continued to play with it as well.

As a massive mermaid and Barbie fan, these were an absolute perfect treat for me but, the results were a little lackluster.I am familiar with the former Color Reveal lines and had whole heartedly not been impressed but once I saw that the terrible wigs were gone and these were mermaid, I had to buy two. While the total surprise element is gone as soon as you open the blue bag inside of the tube, these dolls have better articulation than the former Color Reveals and seem just better made than those. Once their absolutely stunning tails are revealed, these may be some of my very favorite mermaid Barbies. Their tails are reminiscent of the 90s mermaid Barbies in that their snap on tails are made of a thin, gossamer like material and really give these dolls a vintage and ethereal aesthetic.However, the hair is absolutely terrible. Some of the absolute worst hair I have ever seen Barbie have. Thin, sparsely placed and large bald spots are not a good look. While I understand that this supposed to be color changing, the hair could have been done better but at least it’s not the wigs. Second, the tails are absolutely stunning and have a crystalline effect to them but, that effect is only on the front of the doll and they have very plain, standard backs. At fifteen dollars a piece, for a surprise toy, I expected better.These dolls are beautiful and definitely playline toys. Even with their complications, I would definitely recommend them to fellow collectors!
