It Works Great!
I was hesitant to buy this after reading reviews regarding the cable fraying at the connectors. The reviews were a bit old so I hoped the manufacturer took notice and fixed the issue. I could not find any other cables like this so I took a chance. I was pleasantly surprised to find they did indeed update it! I've included a photo that shows my Headset Buddy cable next to an Apple lightning adapter and a Rode SC4. You can clearly see they've beefed up the cable on the Headset Buddy. It's plenty tough and is way better than the Apple or Rode cables.I'm using this cable to feed a timecode signal from my field recorder into my iPhone XR. Without the Headset Buddy, the signal was too hot and was overdriving the input on the iPhone. So, I guess this cable takes line level signals and attenuates them. I don't know the specifics or details, but I can tell you it works perfectly for my application. I still have to use the Apple adapter along with the Headset Buddy, but that's just to be able to plug into the lightning port on my phone. If the manufacturer happens to read these reviews, I noticed on their website a cable just like this Headset Buddy, but with a lightning connector instead of the 3.5mm TRRS. But they no longer offer this cable. Why the heck not!? It would negate the need for the Apple adapter. Please bring it back!

Fantastic product and perfect solution for recording
This solved a huge issue for us and a such an awesome price point! We record our sermons at church with an iPhone and wanted to be able to get the sound from the mic directly on the video during recording instead of using the built in mic on the iPhone which picks up the echo and people in the huge sanctuary. This was the perfect solution! We use an adapter on our sound board for the headphones then plug an AUX cable into it and then this gets connected to the AUX cable and then a lightening adapter to the iPhone. Sound quality is very good considering all the adapters, only thing I can complain about it is the volume tends to be lower in the recording also it does mess with the recorded videos on the iPhone so have to use iMovie to convert them and save them back to photos in order to import for editing on the Mac. Overall highly recommend

Quality problems with 2 different cables ...... but 3rd cable worked
I ordered the "iPhone-Mic-Line" adapter (line level audio adapter with built in attenuator) for connecting an audio mixer to an iPhone. What I received from Amazon was an "iPhone-Mic-ECM" adapter for connecting an eternal microphone (had no attenuation for line level). Found the problem: Amazon had mis-labeled the box that was sent. Tried to use this cable for what I needed, but the 3.5mm jack had an intermittent connection inside it causing lots of static and popping. The GOOD news: Headset Buddy was very responsive and immediately sent me a replacement "iPhone-Mic-Line-Plus" adapter cable, which has an extra jack for a headset output. The BAD news: that cable was also faulty. Same problem as with the first cable: 3.5mm line input jack had an intermittent connection causing lots of static and popping. And yes, I tried several different plugs and cords on my end to prove the problem was in the jack. There is obviously a major quality control problem in manufacturing these cables.UPDATE 05/07/20 - Headset Buddy sent me another "iPhone-Mic-Line-Plus" adapter cable to replace the faulty one, and this cable worked! The line input jack seems to hold the plug tighter, and does not produce static and popping. This replacement cable works as advertised! Thank you Headset Buddy for the excellent support. SIDE NOTE: Make sure to have your line input plugged into the adapter cable before plugging it into your iPhone. The iPhone lightning port must "see" the correct impedance being plugged in to recognize it as a "microphone" and therefore disable the phone's built-in mic.

Frustratingly didn't always work at first!!
When I first got it (for recording line level audio to iPhone 6 without having to download an app), it would only work from time to time. As it doesn't have a headphone out, I couldn't monitor myself and couldn't tell if it was recording the audio via my iPhone video camera's mic. Finally, after reading someone's comment somewhere that he or she would always have to restart his or her smartphone did it give me the idea to not plug the Headset Buddy into the iPhone until after I switched on the video camera app before pressing record. After a number of tries, I finally discovered that this is the only way it would work without having to restart my iPhone. Sounds crystal clear, louder, and so much better than recording video unto an iPhone without it. Exactly what I need to post some better sounding audio via live broadcasts through my iPhone's video app. Thank you so much.

Excellent for recording to iPad
When I first used the cable, there was a terrible buzzing recorded on top of the audio. Because of some of the reviews, I assumed that there was a problem with the construction and took the cable apart thinking I could perhaps fix it. As I took the cable apart, I was surprised to see how solidly the cable was put together. It seemed to be constructed much better than some of the reviews implied. After giving up on fixing it myself, I contacted the seller via email and they quickly responded and sent me another cable.I tried the second cable and found that it had the same buzzing, BUT ONLY WHEN MY IPAD WAS PLUGGED IN! When my iPad was running off battery, the input audio signal was perfect. So now I don't know whether there was even anything wrong with the first cable.I am completely happy with this cable. We are using it to broadcast our church services over Facebook Live using the audio output from the sound board. Works great!
