Solid, quiet window unit with heating and cooling
I bought this since I really liked the functionality of a previous Midea unit I bought for my shop, but didn't care for the u-shape style. This one is 8000 BTU, and also has the heating function. It is basically a heat pump in a regular square window unit form factor. I bought it to help cool the bedroom, and heat function was just a nice "bonus" that I didn't plan on using. I installed it early April, and the temps dropped the next day. I will say that the heat function works very well, and while the literature says 41 degrees F (5 degrees C) is the minimum outdoor operating temperature, it seemed to work down into the upper 30s (around 2 to 3 degrees C) on a couple nights. In the app, this model actually shows up as a "split unit" so you know it's a real heat pump.ProsCold when you want itWarm when you want it (within reason)Much quieter than the generic "on/off" style window unit it replaced (this one is inverter driven)Scheduling and long distance operation via Wi-Fi and the app is pretty easyIncluded remote works wellThey include locking screws and insulating tape for installation. The top groove and side blocking pieces are included, but you have to attach themConsIf you have sensitive hearing, you'll hear the high pitched whine from the inverter systemMy LED lights on the same circuit as the AC flicker in a slightly annoying wayIn auto heat/cool mode, the "dead zone" AKA "hysteresis" is a bit too small. The system will switch between heat and cool a lot if the temperature is close to targetUnit was a bit wider than the old AC, and I had to get creative with the side blocking pieces and insulating tapeAt certain frequencies, you may get some vibration in the wall/window from the AC. I get it a bit, but it's usually while it's speeding up so it only lasts a few seconds. The manual states this happens due to "weak walls." I live in a double wide, so maybe?I'm really being a bit picky, because overall I'm totally satisfied with this unit! I like that it only runs as hard as it needs to, and the 8000 BTU size is great for a medium bedroom and bathroom combo. I strongly recommend it so far.Overall power draw is typically between 200 and 400 watts while running, it does seem to use a bit more power in heat mode and gets close to 500 watts at times (according to a KILL A WATT meter)Stand by is under 2 watts

No buzzing sound, works great!
I agree with other reviewers that the fan is not quiet, it’s a reasonable level for the size. I hate the buzzing sound of a AC unit and this does not make that sound. If you don’t mind the white noise of a fan in the background, you will like this unit. It cools better than any other unit I’ve had. Great price too

The Upper Floor's Champion: Midea 12,000 BTU Smart Inverter AC Unit
Living in a house with an upper floor that practically bakes in the summer sun, a good AC unit isn't a luxury – it's a necessity. After enduring too many sweltering nights, I finally invested in the Midea 12,000 BTU Smart Inverter Window Unit, and let me tell you, it's been an absolute game-changer. This unit lives up to its "smart" name in every way, seamlessly integrating with my Home Assistant setup and providing truly automated comfort.Installation, while a bit more involved than a traditional clunky window unit due to its U-shaped design, was straightforward enough for me to handle. Once in place, the difference was immediate. This Midea unit cools my entire upper floor, roughly 500 sq. ft., with impressive speed and efficiency. What truly sets it apart, though, is its Matter compatibility. Pairing it with Home Assistant was a breeze, and now with my temperature and motion sensors, my upstairs climate control is entirely automated. The unit kicks on only when needed, maintaining a perfect temperature without any manual fiddling. It's truly a set-it-and-forget-it solution.Yes, it comes with a higher price tag than some other window units, but for the advanced features, the incredible energy efficiency, and the unparalleled smart home integration, it's a cost I'd pay again in a heartbeat. The quiet operation is also a huge bonus – no more roaring AC drowning out conversations or TV shows.Pros:* Exceptional Cooling Power: Quickly and effectively cools large spaces (up to 550 sq. ft.).* Unrivaled Smart Home Integration: Matter compatibility makes it a dream for Home Assistant users, allowing for true automation with external sensors.* Whisper-Quiet Operation: Seriously, it's astonishingly quiet, making it perfect for bedrooms or living areas.* Energy Efficient (Inverter Technology): Noticeable savings on the electricity bill compared to traditional units.* Heat and Dehumidifier Functions: A versatile unit for year-round comfort.* Secure U-Shaped Design: Feels far more secure and less precarious than standard window ACs.Cons:* Pricey: Definitely an investment upfront, but worth it for the features.* Installation Can Be a Bit More Involved: While not difficult, the U-shaped design requires a bit more care than just plunking a box in the window.* Occasional App Connectivity Quirks (Minor): While Home Assistant integration is solid, I've had very rare, minor hiccups with the proprietary app itself. This Midea 12,000 BTU Smart Inverter AC unit has transformed my upstairs from a hot zone to a comfortable retreat. If you're looking for a powerful, energy-efficient, and truly smart window AC that integrates seamlessly into your automated home, this is the one to get. It's a premium product, but the comfort and convenience it delivers are priceless.
