Do they like they are well built? They look like they would break easily.

They are the same as the traditional carbon steel one I have from my Mother-in-law who is 91 years old and she bought them from the same shop in Tokyo in the 1930's. Yes, I suppose you could power them through a stem or branch that is too wide and they might break at the base of the curve in the handle. Watch out when snipping because using too much force will allow the bottom of the sharp edge to close past the other edge and may poke your finger. Leave the larger parts for the bigger scissors such as electrician snips. Having said that they are truly adaptable and size is excellent when snipping around parts that stick out. Being left handed my fingers got calluses from the round handle of most common snips. No such thing using these. We have three pairs in daily use. The black ones with plastic handles that are available elsewhere are stainless steel cannot cut worth damn. Avoid as will not last.

Would these be good for hair/nails

This type of scissors are used for thread cutting....snipping off loose material edges. I suppose you could use it to cut hair but it would take a long while to get the head done. Definitely not used for nails.

How do you sharpen these?

I only use them for snipping thread and yarn so they don't need sharpening. When they do I will take them to a knife store as I am no good at using whetstones.
