This works great to prevent scavenging!
The media could not be loaded. We have a 62 pound Red Tick Coonhound (like a very large Beagle) and a 60 pound Bloodhound (she is small for her breed). The Coonhound had a very expensive surgery to remove almost 3/4 pound of rocks and vegetation from his stomach. He also eats poop that he finds around the neighborhood because of so many irresponsible pet owners. The Bloodhound does not eat rocks and poop, thankfully, but she does grab inappropriate items on our walks. This includes discarded rib bones, chicken bones, rotting fruit, orange peels, old pieces of corn cobs...you name it. Well, after his expensive surgery and seeing how much distress he was in from a gut full of rocks, we purchased the OutFox Field Guard for the Coonhound at the recommendation of an acquaintance. It works so well we decided to ourchase a second one for the Bloodhound. We got a size medium for each of them and they fit well. Neither dog minds having us slip it on them, and it doesn't slow them down a bit on our daily walks. They can now sniff to their hearts' content and we have peace of mind that they won't eat something harmful. I cannot speak to durability because we've only had them for a couple of weeks. But the dogs both seem perfectly comfortable wearing these. I would not trust them to stay on if the dog was left unsupervised. But, for walking with us, these are just what we needed. Great conversation starter, too. People stop and ask about the "masks" (because yes, it's pretty strange looking). We joke, and say things like they are Dog Vader, or beekeepers. One young man jokingly asked if it was a spit bag like the cops use when someone in custody is a spitter. Made us laugh. But, when we explain the true purpose, folks smile and they "get it." If these wear out, we will buy more. They aren't cheap, but neither was the surgery. And, our dogs are worth it! Easy to use, easy to clean.

Dogs adapt easily to this, great for spring and summer foxtails
Great for keeping foxtails from getting in nose, eyes, mouth and ears! Well worth the cost

Good brand
I was hesitant when I bought this because the first one I got, a different brand was a disaster. Well, this thing arrived. At first my dog does not like it. But after a while he finally gave in and allowed me to put it on him. He loves eating soil that is why the vet told me to get this thing. He still tried even with this thing on but after several days, he no longer digs his snout on soil. Wisest investment. This brand is not cheap but it works. Easy to clean too. Thumbs up. I will buy again.

Great but needs to be modified so dog can’t remove it
On our second one. Our dog was not only able to take it off but also the velcros didn’t hold under his demonic running so we lost it. This time I have modified it by poking littleholes all around and tying rope loops. I fit a collar into the loops (like an e-collar) and this stays on. Wish the manufacturer did this as I think it’s a design flaw the way it is. But it works GREAT (he comes back looking like a pincushion). I also think it’s like wearing sunglasses which is good, and it might help against snakebite as the snake would hit the hood before getting to the dog’s face.

Protects your dog from surgery!
The media could not be loaded. This is our 3rd mask because she wears them out within a year or less! She loves running around off leash but after 1 foxtail up her nose for $600 vet bill and 1 foxtail in her lung that required extensive surgery and $25,000 later, plus she lost a lung lobe...we found this mask and she will never run loose without one ever again. The mask must itch her face because she does rub her head against my legs when wearing it and will nose dive into grass to scratch herself, but no foxtail in nose, ears or lungs since wearing this. I feel she's safe and she gets her freedom. At first she was reluctant to run fast and jump, it took her time to get used to it for sure. But not she's great and a pro. We have had horrible foxtail seasons in SoCal the last couple summers. I highly recommend these. But please also note, dog can drink through this mask, especially muddy water in the fields, and can't defend themselves against a predator attacking them. We had a pitbull attack her probably bc it didn't know what the mask was and she got a puncture wound, which luckily healed up without incident. But we got close to a coyote once too and she can't easily bite thru this. So be thoughtful about being aware of the surroundings and making sure your dog is safe when the mask is on to keep your pup safe. :) i highly recommend this mask though...it's pricey but NOT as pricey as those vet bills!

Dog won’t wear it
$1200 later, after removal of three foxtails from my senior dog’s ear, I bought this expensive dog “mask”. Seems well -constructed but the old dog refuses to wear it. Start young and you and your dog might benefit.

Saves us money and trips to the vet
Revised review: 3 starsAlthough we love the idea of these masks, wer'e having an issue with them staying on. We have lost two so far, lost somewhere in the field with no hope of finding them again. We have Brittanies, and they are in fields, not dense brush, and they still came off. Not sure how to resolve this issue, and not sure if I want to keep buying more of them as they are faily expensive. One vet bill was $250 to removes cheat grass from our dogs ears. Since we’ve used these masks on both our dogs, no cheat grass in their ears! The masks fit well, the dogs can see, breath and drink water easily, and has been a game changer for us! I highly recommend!

Saved me on vet bills’
I started buying these awhile ago, and I love them!! Before I found them, I’d paid $2,500 in vet bills to remove foxtails from my dogs nose and under his eye. Since I’ve been using these, zero foxtails!! I also love the Velcro straps that wrap around his collar to keep him from pulling it off.
