Precision and Power: Spring Tools 28R45-1 Center Punch Review
Transitioning from traditional methods involving a hammer and a conventional steel punch, I've experienced a mix of outcomes, often marred by sliding punches that scratch surfaces or fail to make a significant indent. The Spring Tools 28R45-1 Hammerless Single Ended High-Speed Steel Center Punch marks a notable improvement in both design and functionality. Its hammerless operation not only streamlines the process but also significantly reduces the margin for error, providing a safer and more reliable method for marking metal surfaces.I've put this punch to the test on 10 gauge steel and can attest to its power and effectiveness, achieving clean, deep indents with minimal effort. Despite its strengths, there's a lingering concern about the potential for pinching my finger in the steel coil mechanism during use. While this hasn't occurred, the possibility remains a slight drawback in an otherwise excellent tool. This punch has proven to be a valuable addition to my toolkit, offering a blend of precision, power, and ease of use that traditional methods simply can't match.

My Go to punch!
As a Union Trades Millwright, I had one of these punches a long time ago and loved it.These punches are great for layout, match marking machinery and More!I didn't think they made these anymore, but to my surprise and pleasure I found them.I will be back to get the entire line!I love showing the young men in the Trades how handy these products are and finally the Quality of tools of yesterday that are still made today, which include Made in the USA!Great Products, Great Quality and Great Price.

Where was this tool all my life?
I will cut to the chase. I really love this punch! The fine point makes it easy to make and accurate starter dimple in wood or metal. The spring is surprisingly strong enough to do the job, and sturdy enough it is going to hold its shape. The action of holding the point in place and simply pulling and releasing the spring is much easier than striking a punch with a hammer, plus easier to work in tight places. The price is right, the tool is amazing. Every woodworker needs this. This is one of those tools you will never regret buying.

Try not to use on very hard materials
This thing works great and is sharp and will stay that way. Don't try using on things like a broken screw to make a dent to drill out the screw. Not an expert on metal but things like that seem to blunt points, I've done this with other brands and ruined the center punch. Mine is slightly blunted, didn't do it on a screw this time, but I'm sure I pushed the limit and it blunted a tiny bit but still works great. Or maybe over time it just blunts, either way definitely the best center punch I've used

Great tool!
These are awesome tools. They are well built and the spring is nice and tight. To center punch a drill hole in metal just put where you want and pull straight back and release. There is no risk of a bad hammer blow, or your punch moving or walking before you can hit it.These also make excellent glass break tools in case of an emergency. Throw one in your glovebox in case. I put a cap from a pen on mine so I can put it in my shirt pocket. It also keeps it from rolling off your workbench.

A soundly solid American value.
Don’t want your drill bit walking? Don’t want an import tax increase? Don’t you love a solid American value? This small center punch will leave its mark. Forget the import tax, it’s solidly built in America. It creates a nice imprint on even stainless steel and keep your drill bit exactly where the mark is. The very few times I had not very nice interjections can always be blamed on my shaky fingers.

A Great Tool
I didn't really know I needed this until I got it. I was stuck trying to remove a broken bolt that was stuck below the surface. I used this tool to "spin" the bolt out of the aluminum housing. Worked a treat for that. And now I've found a ton of other things to use it for including it intended purpose of punching materials for drilling. It is much more accurate than trying to use a traditional punch with a hammer. Definitely recommend especially when you have limited space to swing a hammer.
