Nice design and great sound
The SWOFY (M8) MP3 player belongs to a relatively new crop of (Chinese designed and manufactured) metal/glass cased HiFi digital audio player devices (e.g. Walker H2, Mechen M30, Surfans F20, etc.) which feature the same or a very similar underlying architecture (input chips, DAC, DSD decoders, etc.) but are packaged differently. in addition some may have other features, such as FM radio, Bluetooth connectivity, etc.) The Swofy M8 does not have radio or Bluetooth - it is simply a music player. In terms of hardware, it is likely based on the Texas Instruments PCM5102A DAC chip (just like most of the other players) and has a TPA6130A2 handling the amplification for headphone output. The device also claims DSD support (I don't have any music in this format and could not verify. If it does support DSD, it must have been implemented via some other DSD to PCM IC, since the PCM51xx DACs do not support DSD natively). The device itself is well built, about the size of a credit card and 1/2in thick, it has a small screen (not touch-screen), a few other buttons (back/fwd, volume, menu, play) and a nice scroll wheel which has multiple functions (volume control, changing tracks from the playlist, scrolling through the menu, etc.). The instructions included are not very detailed or useful but figuring out the function of the buttons (and the available functionality of the device) should not take more than a few minutes to anyone. There is no internal memory - the device relies on a SD micro-card to store the music. The SD-card is inserted on the side of the device. As mentioned above, the case is made of metal not plastic (as some other reviewers have suggested) and overall the device leave a good impression - it is well made. Now the sound: I would rate it as very good. I will not waste any time trying to compare this with phones (even expensive one) or iPods, iPads, tablets or other things like that. Those things are simply not in the same league with this device, despite this DAP only using what I would consider a mid-grade (HiFi) DAC and a lower grade, but nevertheless, high-end headphone amp. Instead I would say that this device almost trade blows with a FiiO E12 fed by an entry level ESS Sabre DAC (ES9023), and is about on par with the Wolfson DAC (WM8718)/headphone-amp combo in my old Onkyo C-7030 cd-player (or perhaps it has a slightly superior low end, although the Onkyo is noticeably better by most measures when paired with a higher end headphone amp like the FiiO E12 or the Matrix M-Stage). In terms of loudness, the M8 headphone amp is quite capable: for instance it is able to drive a pair of Beyerdynamic DT-990 headphones (250Ohm/96dB/mW) to very loud levels and without audible distortion. Battery life is quite good: I've been using it every day for the past month as an audio source in the car (via the line output) for about 2 - 2.5hr/day and I only charge it in the weekend. If used with headphones, however, the battery may last less. Th one (and really - only) gripe I have with the design of the device is the placement of the two output jacks at the bottom. I think that it would have been better if they were located on top, next to the power button. Overall, and for the price I would rate this DAP as excellent: nice design, well made and very good sound quality - five star.

Mechen D53 Mp3 player Adds What's Been Missing!
This is the Mp3 player I have been wanting! This unit meets my need for an onstage Mp3 backing track player. I like that I can find requested songs by using the search feature and locate a song without scrolling through the whole alphabet! The 7 playlists are great for setting up song sets for live playing as well as additional playlist sets!I have mid-priced ($80-$125) higher end Mp3 players that I currently use onstage for playback of my backing tracks, and even though this player is bargain priced (under $40), it has the features I need for my stage work. Admittedly this player is not all that I would like in an onstage portable Mp3 player for live work (e.g. I prefer mechanical buttons over touchscreen), but the 2 new features this Mechen D53 provides are welcomed additions that my higher end players currently lack for onstage use. This unit provides needed, thoughtful and useful additions for low budget onstage Mp3 player. The overall sound, although not ideal, does work for my onstage purposes.Until the SEARCH FEATURE along with the ADDTITIONAL 7 PLAYLISTS are placed in future mid-higher end Mp3 players, I find the Mechen D53 to be a welcomed, needed, and useful addition for the low budget musician to use onstage as well as all users in general.

Really good DAP
so i got this DAP as my other one was a bit older and i must say this one is everything it was advertised as and more. its ruggedly built. im not afraid of handling it fearing i might break it. this thing is built like a tank. the sound quality is what i expected from a dap. it plays all my wav files with superb quality. and its REALLY easy to navigate. super user friendly. im about to get another one for a backup.

LASTED 2 1/2 MONTHS AND STOPED WORKING. CUSTOMER SERVICE USELESS.
This unit looks and feels like a high quality music player not the cheap plastic ones that last a year or two. It sounds much better than my mp3, and its pretty easy to use. When you stop playing music the unit turns off automaticly in 5 minutes. I have just been playing lossy music files and they sound very good. When I get some lossless music I will update how they sound.. I have not had it long enough to comment on battery life. For the price I am very happy with the M8 swofy. The screen is fine for indoor viewing but outside in the sun it is very hard to see. Battery life on first charge was around 20 hrs play time.I am revising my reivew since this SWOFY has stoped working. It lasted me 2 1/2 months and customerservice would not refund or replace it. They said it had to be fixed! When I asked how they stopped communicating with me. As you can see from the review above I liked it right up to the point it stoped working.but MSDZWK decided not to stand by their product.
