FOR LONG, COILY, THICK, a/o HARD-TO-STYLE
This is THE BEST Curling Iron I’ve ever purchased. Great for those with long hair, coily hair, a lot of hair, and/or hard to style hair. I’ve gone through several higher priced options this past year alone ($100-$250 each) in my never-ending quest for a curling iron that would work with my hair. Unfortunately, the pricier brands turned out to be just as ineffective as the reasonably priced brands. Until this purchase.I have A LOT of LONG “COILY” HAIR and it’s difficult to style. The standard length and diameter curling irons are a royal pain to use — it takes forever to do my hair (2-3 passes per section)!!! The standard barrels are too short, the diameters too slim, and the temperatures not high enough to handle a person with long difficult-to-style hair. And the WORST part of the previous curling irons: Even applying a heat protector prior to styling, using approved temp of only 365F, my hair would STINK for days. I couldn’t stop or even mask the smell. Plus it took forever to do my hair because standard barrels were too short and too narrow and temperatures not high enough to quickly handle thick, coily, and/or long hair.I had always loved Hot Tools reliability, so when I saw they were offering a Gold Extra Long 2” Barrel Curling Iron … I had to have it! After a few weeks of blissful use, I ordered another for my gym bag and will likely order a 3rd just for backup. This Hot Tools Gold Extra Long XL 2” Barrel Curling Iron leaves NO SMELL (even at 400F) and cuts my styling time in half — it handles more hair with each pass. The clip holds hair firmly in-place, yet the light-touch lever allows my hair to slide through smooth as silk. And my hair doesn’t get caught in the clip — not having hair ripped from my skull is good. Plus it has a wide range of temperatures, with higher temps for tough-to-style hair that are not found on other brands. After years of searching, I finally found THE perfect curling iron. I could never go back to the standard short-barrel narrow-diameter low-temp ineffective styling tools of days past.Previous Experience:Like many others who posted reviews on Amazon, I too was sent a previously opened and USED curling iron with product stains and trapped hair. HOWEVER … within 24 hours of making Seller aware of the return reason, I received a brand-new unit and it is THE BEST CURLING IRON I have ever used. I already ordered another one, and will likely order a third just for backup.NOTE TO HOT TOOLS: Puh-lease do not ever discontinue this model, as there are no comparable products Extra Long Barrel 2” Curling Irons on the market. 🙏

Long barrel = longer -lasting curls
This curling iron has been exactly what I needed for my long hair. The extended barrel makes curling easier and faster, especially with longer strands. It’s super user-friendly, and I’ve found the curls actually hold up well throughout the day. Definitely a great pick if you’re looking for something reliable that delivers consistent results.

Easy product with great results!
I've always loved HotTools, and my opinion continues to stay optimistic as of this most recent purchase. Also, I'm not one to buy hair products for myself, but I bought this during Prime Days and have already fallen in love. The heat kicks up quickly, so you don't have to wait long, and the curls are absolutely beautiful. Big, bouncy curls that fall just enough to have a little wave that's so cute.

The GOAT of Curling Irons for *~Long-Haired Girlies~*
This is the curling iron that I always come back to time and time again. The Hot Tools brand is top-tier, and I don't know why I ever try anything else. Because I have such long hair, the extended barrel is an absolute game changer. It takes far less time to get everything curled, and I can actually get the entire length of a strand on the barrel. The heat controls are fantastic and really determine the look of the curls. I typically use the iron on 380 degrees but will bump up the temperature if Georgia humidity is going to be showing off. My first Hot Tools curling iron was purchased when I was in college at the dawn of time (okay, 2009), and it was still going strong when I left it at an AirBnB this spring. I hope to have this one for 25+ years, if I can only remember to check cabinets when we travel. 😅

Inconsistent Heat & Catches Hair, OUCH
I owned a cheapo 25-30$ iron and a cheapo Conair curling wand prior to this. I only bought this to replace my last iron because I electrically fried it when I took it internationally (oops)...My complaints after 3 days:This curling iron doesn't hold heat well at all; almost as if the heat is only maintained superficially, so once it comes in contact with hair, it's like the heat is lost. The effect is that the curling iron doesn't maintain a steady temperature, and it doesn't stay warm enough consistently for heat to penetrate the entire hair. With my previous curling iron, I only needed to use a 320 degree setting to maintain a good curl, but now I am having to keep this thing past 380-400 degrees to barely get a wave, and none of the curls are holding. My hair is straight after half the day...It also doesn't glide smoothly along the hair. Despite it being a similar design to my last iron, it catches and pulls on my hair WITH NO PRODUCT. It is painful and kind of traumatizing to use because I never know when I am going to get pulled by the iron, and I have a sensitive scalp. Never an issue with my last iron. Also, because it keeps catching my hair even when I am guiding it, it doesn't allow the hair to flatten along the iron properly. I can't do movements or techniques that were so natural with my last iron.Overall, I'm really disappointed with this product and regret buying it. I wasn't able to test if it works internationally. The only redeeming quality I can come up with is that I haven't burned myself - which isn't much of a celebration because it wasn't a problem to begin with. The only reason I am not returning this for a refund is because I don't feel comfortable returning personal care items. My complains after several weeks:I am still disappointed in this purchase. I can see that the ends of my hair are getting damaged and feeling dry, even though my curls are not holding. This was never an issue with my cheap curler. I am going to put this one in my suitcase for international travel or emergencies, and get a different one. I do not recommend this for medium to fine hair.
