Tip on initial use of the unit.
I am a 69 year old physically fit male. A tip for those starting out with this device. You need to expand your lungs before both inhaling and exhaling through the device or you will feel like your drowning and stop using it. For the first week or so start out by opening the air passage fully. For the first 20 repetitions inhale as deeply as you can through the unit and hold it. Exhale through your nose. Then try both inhaling and exhaling through it. You will find that once you do your initial lung expansion you will be able to breath in and out of the unit easier. This needs to be a progression due to your lung capacity on strengthened yet. When you are done with however many reps you can do, breath in deeply without the unit and you will be able to feel how much more expanded your lungs are.

Mostly works well--could use more adjustment granularity
This is not a complicated device and could be built by someone with access to and knowledge of OTC plumbing parts. But the convenience of the pre-assembled device for the price is what sold me.I have used it many times and I do feel that I am improving my breathing capacity. (For disclosure: I do not have any diagnosed breathing problems and am using this strictly on a program of self-improvement. You should consult your own professional medical personnel before embarking on anything like an exercise program.)This is a very compact device and is easy to use. My only minor complaint is that it would be nice if the valve had a wider range of efficacy--there is only a very small range where you go from totally shut off to wide open yet there is a range where the valve is either completely open or closed where turning it does not affect the flow rate. This is easy enough to work around but could be considered for a design improvement. Also, there could be included a scale so that you could easily repeat a setting and/or track progress as the resistance is slowly increased over time.

Very good intro breather for the price
I got this to do Bas Rutten breathing exercises. Been using it everyday for 2 months and it works great. Only difference between this and the Bas O2 trainer is that this one is harder to exhale the full breath, Bas designed his to open wider on exhale for this very reason. But its still a great cheaper alternative.I saw a few people say there's no resistance. They are ABSOLUTELY WRONG. You can literally tighten this thing down so NO air can pass through. All I can think is they were cheating through their nose or can't breathe right in the first place. One piece of advice: when you take it apart to wash it make sure you tighten it down all the way, if you leave it half way you might bend the screw as you work it back and forth to remove the rubber part.

Great for lung exercise therapy! Well priced.
I see people complaining about saliva buildup in the unit. I saw an exercise guru on TV showing how to use this device. Sit, exhale and put your head down between your knees, put the device in your mouth and slowly sit up while inhaling through the exerciser. You should adjust the orifice so that you have to work to inhale and should finish inhaling about the same time you get to the upright sitting position, then exhale through your nose and repeat this 30 times. I find I have to take the device out of my mouth every 5 - 10 breaths to swallow saliva before it builds up. If you adjust the device properly you should feel like you've done some work doing the 30 repetitions. I feel like I've been walking briskly, my breathing and heart rate are somewhat elevated and I am hot from the exertion.Use it or lose it!

Inexpensive no-frills IMT device with a couple shortcomings
This is an adjustable but very no-frills IMT device. It's inexpensive compared to others, but it leaves off two key features:1. No scale to set resistance. Most other devices have a numbered scale so you can track and set your resistance level. This has an unlabeled screw for adjusting resistance. It would literally have cost nothing to print a numeric scale on the screw (there are already other words printed on there) so this is just poor design.2. No exit valve. Almost all IMT devices have an exit valve so that you inhale with resistance, but exhale without resistance. This has no exit valve, so to perform standard IMT exercises with this, you have to breathe in through the mouth and out from the nose. This also means you can't use a nose clip. Having the resistance both ways also gives me a mild but unpleasant drowning/claustrophobia feeling.

Quality Item and Easy to Use
I found out about these Breathing Exercise Devices after reading an article in Martha Stewart publication.I reviewed many of the devices in a variety of price ranges and was willing to spend up to $60.00 if they really helped with stress and blood pressure. After reading reviews I settled on this product since it was going to offer the same benefits as the higher priced ones and will most likely last longer. I am not at all disappointed, it is very sturdy and comfortable to use. I looked at a YouTube demonstration before using it. It definitely changes your breathing pattern and help you to take deeper breaths. I will purchase this device three times over if need be but this will last for some time. You feel a sense of relaxation after using this device and puts you in a meditative mood.

It works
I got this as a tool to use for the Bas Rutten O2 boot camp exercises. Upon my first attempt at trying it out i didn't think that the resistance all the way in would be enough to give me a challenge. In doing the O2 trainer exercises, however, i have noticed a difference in lung capacity in my following work outs immediately. I can feel my lungs open up all the way up my back, which is completely new to me. It's like i i had a new addition added to my lungs. Im not sure if this maxed out resistance will last for me as i continue my breathing exercises but for now its doing the job. Easy to clean, easy to use.
