We're not going to pretend that this is a particularly high quality set. It is not. But what you get for a bargain price is three classic games all in one box, and it's a great way to start a board game collection, or simply to enjoy these games without having to spend a lot of money. The board is made of cardboard, though it's not particularly flimsy and does the job quite well. The pieces are merely plastic, but they're sturdy and are easy to play with. This may not be the finest set around, but it is nonetheless perfect for enjoying chess, checkers, and backgammon at a very low price.

Somehow I thought there'd be a third set of pieces for the backgammon board. It indicates the checkers pieces are for that, too. I suppose it does nicely about resourcefulness. Smaller and separate pieces would have suited me personally though since we have a different, little board collecting dust. Well, you win some...The chess pieces aren't too bad. A bit on the light plasticy side, functional though and are sized pretty well. They'll probably fall over if you're trying to play in a moving vehicle. Yet for a table game that you simply want to play or teach chess with and aren't worried about "quality," this is for you. Also comes with checkers that do stack (woohoo!) and a pair of dice, plus a list of other games you could try with these pieces. For roughly ten dollars on technically three games to start, I'd say this is a nice deal.The board is durable so it is flimsy, but it's not completely flat either. Cosmetically, a whole corner had a line of white that looked like the paint was scraped off. I'll upload a picture when I get around to it.To recap, a perfectly fuctional chess, checkers and backgammon set. I like the color scheme. On the plus side of being cheap, you could play with this until your pocket is ready for a more 'solid' set.Can't complain. Nothing missing or broken on arrival.[edit 7/14/15 -- Cat keeps knocking down the game pieces when we leave it on the table. So we know now he jumps up there regularly during the night. Hey, kitty, share your strategy with one of us.

This is a great traditional gameboard for family game nights. It is not made very sturdy and is probably too big to be considered for travel. But this should hold up for as often as will be using it for our occasional game nights.

I hope this review will be informative, I have both positive and negative feedback on this product :Box: 1/5: The the top of the box appears to be made of 1/32" single walled cardboard, thin but the corrugation gives it much needed strength. the bottom of the box however is made of what I approximate to be between 24 and 30pt cardstock (~.7mm thick) about the same as most cereal boxes, and not adequate for a box of its size or fill level to give much if any protection to its contents. I would not recommend leaving it in its standard box if you plan to use it as a travel set.Board 2/5:, The board is usable, but is rather flimsy at roughly 1/16" (1.5mm) thick, mine came with a white creased bend along one edge where the box was lightly crushed during shipping(see picture). I would not say it lives up to the "durable" descriptor on the box.Chess pieces 4/5: hollow, injection molded plastic and therefore Light, flashing on sides is very minimal, but a few of the pieces have larger bits of flashing on the bottom, most of it comes of easily, but the bottom edges that will require a bit of deburring or sanding before the base will lay flush with the board. they are shaped well though and there are no visible shrinkage or deformation of the pieces.Checkers 4/5: pieces look great. only one had a bit of flashing but it came off easily with a fingernail. that said grooves on top are not good deep enough to get good engagement when kinged.Dice 4/5: both are very good and roll fine. there is only the slightest of residual paint haze from the pips on the a few of the faces, could be due to an inadequate wipe on the cleanup after printing, could just be a slightly porous surface.Overall 3/5: At the price point, I wasn't expecting it to be the best combination chess/checkers & backgammon set ever, but I felt I set my expectation appropriately and was underwhelmed. a stronger box would better keep the lightweight board protected, though a heavier-duty board would also be preferred.I Wish I had looked at the reviews more closely before purchasing, I would have probably bought a different set.

Pretty much Like I remember but . . . . .. the cardboard is a bit thinner and the chess and checker pieces are made out of a thinner plastic then they were made with back in the 80's. Like they say, "They don't make things like they use to." But even with that said it is still a good deal. All 3 games in one. And You can't put a Price Tag on Memories. It is PRICELESS. Back in the day I don't know if you could get all 3 games together. I do know that you could get them separate because I remember helping the Park Rec Coach tape the boxes back when i was a L.I.T. [Leader In Training]. When I was a Kid and just remember going to the Local Rec Park and playing, A LOT as well. We were poor and never got one of our own. I don't know if this is the same brand of way back when but it sure does look like it. Nor do I know the price of back then. Oh and the Box is also made of a thinner cardboard as well. But it all good. This is our 2nd one like this because of moving and other people not respecting other ppls things. But we will enjoy this one with care just as much as we enjoyed the other one. The Memories with this Brand New set have already began. hehehe. My 2 youngest Boys that are still home are ages 10-1/2 and 9. This is a total Classic but still winning and filling Our Hearts. <3
