High-quality portable HD radio receiver
It's a wonderful little radio receiver built-in HD extremely sensitive selective clean sounding. Now don't expect it to blast you out of the room is very small and fairly low volume. But... it has a headphone jack so you can have it drive a bigger stereo if you want it also has a line out Jack so we'll drive it at fixed line level. It even has a line input so you can plug a different source into it.I think it's wonderful reception and versatility make up for its lightweight sound. I use it as is when I just want a little bit of music in the room and then I use it to drive my bad ass stereo when I wanted to crank a really good clear radio signal HD or otherwise.

Why all the myths?
I have seen many myths posted about this radio. It doesn't pick up any HD signals being the primary story. I live in a remote area, where there is no television service and we get DSL internet service- slow and wimpy. Radio is our primary form of news and entertainment. FM comes in good, AM is always distant and scratchy. HD is a myth that most people do not bother with, and local stores do not sell. Using this radio I get more AM channels, FM is stronger, and we get blasted with HD signals. Offhand I would say that there are more HD networks out there than standard FM stations.Yes, there are some HD stations that are too weak for me to get a fix on. But I get clear and strong signals from Canada and even a town called Edmonds, which is over the hills, across the bay and literally hours of driving time away. And finally, I can pick up a news station that is not the "Independent" NPR- which floods the airways. I get about 8 NPR stations. But with HD I can get 1 station that delivers unbiased news.I am not at all certain about the no HD stations myths. There are plenty of radio stations using HD signals, often with up to 3 streams per frequency. Sangean picks them all up, and now I am thinking about getting one of their Wifi radios.

BEST table size Radio I've ever owned
Had many table radios over 60 + years. Prior Best is Sony analog from circa 1985 with 3 inch great monospeaker but drifts off FM stations & retuning is delicate knob touch. I own Sangean Weather/FM/AM from 2010 with Great Weather reception but only acceptable FM tone. This HDR-16 has stereo 2 speakers with FINE music quality. It is NOT a match for Technics component stereo amp with 12 inch speakers. It gets HD even though it is 50 and 35 miles from large city transmitters. More HD than expected. It would be VERY hard to find better sound range in this size radio. Like it shows ST for Stereo reception & HD. Precise tuning is Easy Digital. Telescope pointing antenna is all I need, no special add-on needed. EXCELLENT reception.

SANGEAN LED SCREEN WENT DEAD IN 9 MONTHS!!!
I enjoy this radio, but in true SANGEAN form, the LED screen goes blank. This has happened with almost every SANGEAN radio I have purchased. Sorry SANGEan... NOT going to purchase any of your products ever again. The radio functioned well until the blank screen. It is now a paper weight... just like my CCRANE radio... and PRD5....ALL OF THEM HAVE BLANK SCREENS. Sheesh...

Where's the support?
For the most part, the radio works as expected. It's a small box so the audio isn't a good as the old "boombox" it is replacing. I'm having an issue with the Alarms though... When selecting the "weekday" option, sometimes the alarm fails to go off! I've been trying to contact Sangean customer support, but it doesn't appear they've been keeping their U.S. website up-tp-date, none of the email addresses I tried worked. I tried submitting "customer feedback" and got redirected to a Taiwanese "page not found". So, I'm using it in the 7-day week mode (I guess I didn't really want to sleep-in weekends). To toggle the alarms on/off you must slog through ALL the alarm setting menu items - no simple alarm on/off switch...

This is a great AM/FM HD radio
My local AM radio station moved baseball to the AM/HD channel. I'm too far away from the FM "flagship" station. I bought this radio to hear baseball. I have been really impressed by the sound quality in a portable receiver. Not only is the AM/HD good, the regular FM is better than expected. The controls are easy to use. Battery life is good - I have not even used the included power adapter. Looks nice enough for the family room and seems rugged enough for outside.
